And yes, I plan on cutting the steerer tube. Just need to ride first and see how it feels. Will be dirty in the AM!

Great build! I don't think there is anything on this bike that I would change if I were to build it myself. I especially like the DT/Enve wheels.

    Enjoy the bike!

    Wow.
Still waiting for my bike but I have the exact same build!
Only difference is I went with 7" front rotor, fast trak tires and haven't chosen my saddle yet!
Pedals will be Time XC8 carbon

Waiting on my frameset to arrive to build it up!

You have really nice components!! but I do not understand how J. Kulhavy bike in L size weights 19.6 without pedals!! They showed the bike hanging there with a scale when Specialized Launched the 2014 epic in Germany! No tire sealant maybe!

Foam grips, renegade tires, Roval wheels are lighter than the enve, MT8 brakes are also lighter than the XTR if I remember well.
But tires and wheels are probably the biggest things

Along with the items that frostedfrank noted the show bike is missing a chainstay protector (most likely 50g or so) and probably the clear protective film on the downtube and non drive side chainstay also.

Enve parts (especially the MTB rims) are noted more for their reliability than being particularly lightweight and the show bike has lighter tyres (S-Works Renegade 29x1.95 front and rear claimed weight 470g) compared to the Schwalbe 29x2.25 tyres on JoshF's bike (claimed weight around 605g each if I've read the markings correctly).

The show bike in that picture may have been ridden by Jaroslav Kulhavy at some point but it wouldn't have been exactly like in those pictures. He's quite tall and has a distinctive bike setup, as shown here on his 2013 World Championship race bike:

    http://www.specializedsvorada.cz/mis...ritzburgu-2013

You can get a 2014 Specialized Epic lighter than 19.6lbs, as shown by epicbiker's 2014 S-Works Epic, but it takes some effort:

My front tire weighs 520g (claimed) and the rear is 535. I did have them apply the clear protective tube. My steer tube has at least an inch to be cut and I kept the bars wide at 720mm.

I chose the Enve wheels and XTR brakes over Roval / Magura because I am a huge fan of both and was fine with a little extra weight as a result.

I went enve for reliability also. The rovals are nice wheels but the enve will endure more abuse.

How do the M987 brakes match up with the XX1 shifter in terms of clamp fit/ergonomics on the bar? Can you comment on how the 987's feel compared to the 985's?

    Great bike!

Power and feel is great. I had the 2013 XTR Race brakes on my last bike. They feel quite similar. There is some occasional squeaking with the 2014 that I didn't have on the 2013.
