Major mistake with 2014 Specialized Epic geometry on their web site ??

I compared the geometry of the 2013 Epic with 2014 and there is a problem with the actual top tube length. It is 3 cm longer in 2014 whereas the Wheelbase and Effective Top Tube Length is only 3-4mm longer. The Seat Tube and Head tube angles are basically the same and the chainstays length is not different.

I am not talking about the 2014 World Cup Edition that has a different geometry.

As you can see below the Top tube length of a 2014 medium Epic is longer than the Top tube length of a 2013 Large Epic and the top tube of a 2014 Small Epic is equal to a 2013 Medium Epic... How is it possible ?

    2014 Top Tube Length, Actual : 559mm (s), 587mm (m), 614mm (L)
    2013 Top Tube Length, Actual : 527mm (s), 559mm (m), 584mm (L)

Effective top tube length and Actual top tube length cannot be so closed, so where is the mistake ?

    2014 Top Tube Length, Horizontal : 564mm (s), 593mm (m), 620mm (L)
    2014 Top Tube Length, Actual : 559mm (s), 587mm (m), 614mm (L)

The actual top tube length will mostly depend on the top tube shape and its integration in the general design of the frame. The number you want to check for choosing your frame size is the horizontal top tube length.

I haven't checked these numbers between the '13 and '14 Epic but I would be surprised if you find the same gap...

The 2014 Epic has been redesigned, and the top tube has a different slope than previous Epics. A different slope means a different relationship between actual and horizontal (effective) top tube lengths. This could account for the difference. It's either that, or a mistake.

Did anyone ever determine if the sizing was different or if the website was wrong?

Why not measure your 2014 SW Epic and compare to the web site specs?

The 2011-13 SW Epic medium wheel base published length is 1109mm. My 2011 is 1119mm and I have measured it numerous times just to be sure. The other published specs like top tube, chain stay, reach seem to be correct.

My 2012 SJ FSR EVO medium wheel base is 20mm longer than the published 1156! The 2014 specs med WB spec is incorrect as well.

As I have a 2014 SW WC med frame on order, wheel base is published at 1103mm. I hope this is correct. Can anyone verify?

Why doesn't Specialized EVER correct their site? What are they afraid of?
    Niners specs are bang on!

I looked on the website and compared the '13 to the '14. The horizontal TT length on the '14's is longer.

    S is 10mm longer
    M is 4mm longer
    L is 5mm longer
    XL is 6mm longer

    Thanks for measuring! Nice.

That confirms that WC medium frame not only has shorter chainstay by 9mm, but center front is 6mm shorter than 2011-13 med frame. Overall, 16mm shorter wheel base. Will be a snappier ride!
