I test rode an SL expert yesterday, box stock from the dealer showroom. All I can say is WOW!! I own an '07 Stumpy expert and I know what my next bike will be . It handles as nimble as my stumpy that's already set-up for my riding style. If I had the flow to get one, I would in a heartbeat. Good luck, and post the pics .

If you loved the 03 You'll love this a lot more, quicker, stronger, nimbler (?sp). A lot of us ordered with no demo, knowing that Specialized were on to something and knew what they were doing.

I appreciate your sense of adventure, buying a bike without test riding it first. Okay, maybe I'm not. I know you won't be disappointed.

well i got it from my local bike shop, and they have hit the nail on the head for me the past 4 bikes so im confident in them, this is however the first bike i have bought without sitting on which worries me, but the people i talk to love them, and i have petaled around a med, but i ride small so i couldnt tell .

Picked up new SL Expert 2 days ago. Was intending to by a Blur LT / Yeti / 5-spot but one look at the SL and I thought this is for me. First ride yesterday - better climber than my old Heckler, and as good or better than the 5 spot I demoed. Better climber than the Yeti although the demo bike I rode had heavier 36's and super tacky Minions on it so felt like pedalling wet cement. Very stable on the technical fast downhill sections including a few rock gardens and 3' - 4' drops.
Its also easy to upgrade the expert to comparable specs and weight to the pro for a fraction of the price difference. Best upgrade is to replace the rear wheel with the heavy deore hub and cassette.
I have replaced mine with a hope Pro II / DT 4.2d combination, upgraded bars and seatpost to carbon, and gone to DT tubeless system. Weight dropped from 30.4 to under 28lb which is Carbon Pro territory. Cost of upgrades was only half the price difference between expert and pro.
    Enjoy your new toy!

Only about 4' to transition so far on first ride - it can take lots more.
