Info about replacing stock Avid with Shimano SLX from Blueskycycling.com

Some experience I thought to share to make your process easier to get rid of those terrible stock AVID disc brakes.

Get the M675 180 for 89 bucks. They have the rear one on sale as well for 79. This is the best deal online anywhere, including the UK sites. M666 doesn't have the ICE technology. And they are the same price.

The back will come with the IS adoptor. Blue sky said you dont have to use the adaptor on the stumpy. Mount directly to the 74mm post. I just checked and this is true.

The stock SLX cable is too short for my stumpy FSR 29er. They might be ok for regular 26" bikes. So factor in new cable and labor cost at the LBS when you decide to order. Wish I knew this in advance.

If you are in CA like me, the brakes will come in 2 days regular shipping.

Get them while they last and, Enjoy.

Thanks for the info. So you went from a 200mm rotor to a 180mm? Did you notice a difference?

I ordered up a set of shimano XT's for my fsr evo a week after buying it. Serious upgrade from the avid brakes. Came pre bleed and fit perfectly. Stopping power is better and they are dead quiet on the trail.
