    Long enough to wrap around

The big ring and the tallest cog plus like 2 links.

A chain comes a little longer than it needs to be so you will have to cut it down. To size the chain you can just match the chain length that you currently have if it will run cross chained without binding or sagging.

If you don't have the chain for reference, then wrap the new chain around the big ring in the front and the big ring in the back and add 2 links. Don't feed through the derailers - just wrap the chain around the cogs and when you pull the chain mark the exact link where the two chain ends meet and then add 2 links.

Chain is too long if it sags when running small to small and too long if it binds when running big to big.
