hi guys, I just bought a 07 Specialized Hardrock Sport Disc, it's my first one that isn't from walmart :). Anyway I have a couple beginner questions.

I love MX but haven't ridden a bike without an engine for a while, I will probably have to do some training on roads/sidewalks for a while to get my legs back in shape. What kind of tires work good for pavement on this bike? Also I'm not really a fan of the forks. I will probably try to get something off eBay if possible (new only). What size or measurements do I need to look for to make sure it will fit. Thanks in advance for any help.

Cool, another MX guy, welcome to the club! If you want to stick with specialized, they make a tire called the Rhythm, its pretty sweet, but there are other choices out there that are skinnier, and will offer less rolling resistance, of if you wanna really train, just use the ones that are on there, it wont hurt anything, you just wont be rolling as fast.

I would say give the forks a fair chance before you ditch them, atleast that way you know what you like and dont like, and then you will know what you want to change, you could end up spending money on a fork that you hate. Just like on the MX bikes, its not a good idea to just take the forks and shock off and send them to Factory Connection with no instructions on what changes you want done.

These are great training for MX, enjoy the new bike!

Thanks jut.
Yeah, the point of new tires is for less resistance. I do ride with others and it seems like I'm workin a lot harder on my bike then I would have to on theirs. Plus why burn a decent set of knobbies. ;) As for the forks they just seem really stiff to me, with no changes on adjustments. I would like a fork with a more progressive compression. I can't help it I'm an upgrade junkie. Plus new suspension was the best money I've ever put into my YZF.

Either one of these three will get you going, they are cheap plus they are have a 10% off sale for the next few days i think:

The first two are nice and skinny, and the 3rd one is more of a semi-slick MTB tire, but at the price, you cant go wrong, you might have to get smaller tubes for the first two though, i am not sure what your stock tube range is. It beats paying 40 bucks per tire for the specialized ones if you arent going to be using them that much.
