Help me pick my next MTB!

Alright I have it narrowed down to two options:

    Specialized Bicycle Components

The reason why I am choosing the Epic is because I currently ride a Stumpjumper FSR Comp and I stick mostly with XC type riding so I am looking for something lighter and more efficient. The SJ FSR is a great bike but it is a bit heavy and is more toward trail/more aggressive riding. I do not need all the travel it has in its suspension.

Now I need help choosing which Epic to get, even though these bikes both use the same frame they have vastly different components/setups. I have only used 2x10 or 3x9 drive train and have no experience with a 1x11. That makes me nervous because I am worried I would run out of gearing going up a long steep climb. If I knew I could turn the gearing just fine going up hill for sustained amounts of time I would jump at the WC over the marathon. This is my main reason for pause. The shorter chain stays on the WC are another unknown for me. Would they cause my legs to tire faster since it would seem like it would put more torque on them?

I plan on doing races like the Whiskey 50, and Barn Burner 104 and possibly Leadville. Do you think the WC with the shorter chain stays and the 1x11 drive train would be enough or should I go for a more tamer option with more gear choces, longer chain stays in the Marathon model?

Why not the Expert model? Save a grand and it's the same weight?

1x11 vs 2x10 is a personal preference thing. Both ways you have a pretty wide range. I would suggest riding a 1x11 before buying it.

The Expert uses their 9m carbon, the WC and Marathon both use their 10m carbon. The components are different as well, Expert uses XTR while WC and Marathon use X0. I have no idea what the exact weight difference would be but there would be a difference.

Good info! Thank you for that! Hopefully someone will release weights for 2014 bikes sometime soon.
