    Headset

I asked this in the Bike/Frame forum, but was directed here. One of the posters thought Spec. may use a nonstandard size headset.

I have an 08 FSR XC Expert with a Cane Creek Headset. The desc. on Specialized's website is:

1 1/8" threadless, black steel cups, loose ball bearings w/ seals

I'd like to buy a Hope off of Ebay. Here are the specs:

    Steerer Tube: 1-1/8" Threadless
    Headset Type: 1-1/8" Standard Cups
    Color: Red
    Crown Race: 30.0
    Stack Height: 28 mm
    Bearing Type: Cartridge
    Material: Aluminum
    Weight: 90.0 g

Will I have to do anything other than swap out the two of them? Spec website didn't list anything about "stack height". Is 28mm pretty common/interchangeable?

    Thanks!!!!

My Stumpie 29er has a King Ti in it with no issues.

    28mm = 1.1in

Measure out both of the headset cups a few times and average it out. You might need to add/take away some spacers depending on your steerer tube length.

Talk to your dealer. Spec supposedly has a technical bulletin on non-CC headsets on 08 Stumpys.

Spec says their forged headtubes are less elastic (than non-forged) so they picked a larger bore for an easier fit with their soft alloy headsets (many Enduro SL an Specialized alloy frames come with something called "Lanusse", prolly just a Cane Creek rebranded headset). Chris King uses a hard alloy that doesn't have as much give

Go with the Hope, You'll love it. King makes good stuff, dont get me wrong, but with my latest build up, I run Hope where the King would have been (Hubs, Headsets, Etc) and I honestly like it better. Plus, its different. Anything component wise that Hope puts out I have on my bike. Good sh*t.
    Livin' the dream.
