    Probably something like:

    clamp size?
    top/down pull?
    top/bottom swing?

    Just a guess...

Down pull, top swing for the Epic

    About Shimano FDs

The old type XTR 952 doesn't fit very well into the Epic. The cage contacts the main suspension pivot when shifting to the granny ring. Also the cable clamping bolt is in weird place to fit into Specializeds (Enduro is even worse). I managed to fit that FD into my girlfriend's '03 Epic by filing off a bit of aluminum from the derailleur cage. The old XT 750 should fit better.

The new XTR 960 and XT 760 fit fine although I never managed to get the XT 760 to shift well in that Epic (and that's why I changed it to the 952).

XTR shifts better than XT and is more durable but also costs about twice compared to XT.

Like the guys before me said, you will need a TS, DP derailleur with a 34.9mm clamp.
