Front derailer suggestions for 06 Epic

I ordered the wrong derailer for my Epic *(#*(#&*()

To all Epic owners out there, what types of front derailers are you using? Is the XT the way to go? SRAM?

    Thanks!

Using the LX that came with the bike and it seems to be fine so far.

I thought it came with an XT? Or is that only the Marathon that comes with the XT?

    Interesting...

    On this page:
    https://store.specialized.com/bc/SBC...keTab=techspec

It says specifically that the derailer for an 06 Epic Marathon is:
FRONT DERAILLEUR Shimano M-760 XT, 34.9mm clamp, top swing, dual pull

I think that is a typo. I bought a top swing and it doesn't fit. The other models on that page all use bottom swing front derailers. Man, that's like the 2nd time I've run into a fubar by Specialized on this frame. Maybe the 3rd if I count the bottom bracket shell. I installed an XTR crankset and it said to use the little spacers on the sprocket side if the shell is a 73mm, but I actually had to use one on both sides because there was a gap on the crank-arm-only side. Maybe a mistake by Shimano, or the thread depth is wrong on the frame. Not sure about that one...

Hmmm, hope an XT FD-M760 top swing dual pull is alright, 'cause that's what I've got sitting on my 05 Epic frame right now. I'm waiting on shifters though so I haven't tested the cable routing. Looks ok to me though, the cable will just need to take a different path - over the top of the pivot rather than the direct route... the cable guide under the bottom bracket seems to line up with that ok too. Incidentally, it fits the frame without the supplied spacers.

    Good luck (and here's hoping),

Can you post a picture of it on your frame? Also, how much different is the 05 and the 06?

Here's an image which might help. Can't answer your question on the diff between 05 and 06, though I doubt there would be much.

Just a follow up now I have it on - the XT seems to work fine.
