I had a 98 FSR that I was able to bring overseas, by unbolting one of the rear shock connections, and then fold up the rear four bar assembly over the front half of the frame. The bike fit in a suitcase this way.
Has anybody done the same? Can the newer frames do the same, they seam like they may not fold up as easy.
Has anyone else had to deal with getting their bikes overseas, what have you folks done?
go to local bike shop when they are unpacking a new bike, then use the same materials to repack your bike the same way. take the box and one bag on the international flight and you might not have to pay any additional luggage fees, Or carry your normal luggage and pay for the box, it was $100.00 extra one year ago on NWA. Call the airline to confirm.
Did you end up putting it in a suitcase? I am wondering about doing the same thing, disconnecting the two parts of my full-suspension so I can try and get within the 82" limit. Based on just measuring with a ruler I think I could get under that 82" linear, certainly if I broke it into two boxes.

Based on measurement I am pretty sure I can get it into a roller-duffel I have except for the wheels (seem to be 22" without tires). There is a slight chance the might fit diagonally, I'm thinking I may have to put them somewhere else. One idea I have for them is a large roller garment bag.
