    Epic Warranty?

I have an '05 Epic. The rear screw-hole where the derailleur hanger attaches broke off. I was wondering how many people had this happen (it does not look like a great design). I was also wondering how many people warrantied a frame with this problem and what was Specialized's response. Thanks

    no warranty

If it's the same design as on my '04 anniversary FSR (small threaded holes) They won't warranty it. Their reason is that the tension from the skewer holds everything in place anyway so it's not a failure waiting to happen. It's obviously a bad design in that particular area, but I can tell you that I've ridden my bike for 4 years in this state with no problems. So, I believe that it is a design problem but not a performance problem.

Most companies offer a 'crash replacement' option for a reduced cost. Not sure if this falls into the crash replacement category, but it's worth a shot. You may be able to get a replacement frame for a big discount. Check in with a local shop that you trust or try contacting them directly.

The same thing happened to my 04 but Specialized gave me a new rear end for free even though they didn't need to. This was about 2006 however, so I'm not sure if you can expect much success with a 5 year old bike.

They told me it would have cost about $250.

Go to your Local Specialized Dealer, have them call Specialized warranty department and ask about the replacement cost of the SEATSTAY..... should be around $200 or so

UNLESS you are talking about the derailer hanger... then fork out the $50 and thank the stars it's just that!

Seems to me it should be warrantied unless it broke off in a crash.

And as long as you are the original owner of the bike.

Nope. Anything that is part of the suspension warrantied for one year, so basically if anything goes wrong behind the seat tube, you're out of luck.

Wrong answer, contact your local Spec dealer let him make the determination.

Yeah, that's wrong. Suspension components... but not the frame itself.
