    Epic Dilemma

I am currently riding a 2013 Epic Comp xl with the following up grades, XO shifters and derailleurs, X9 crank, Thompson Elite seatpost, Phenom pro saddle w carbon rails, tubeless with Stans and a Sid RCT3 with dual air. Also, the bike is currently in the shop getting a new Roval Control 29 alloy wheelset. I am also a few months away from a large BP settlement. I ride mostly XC with about 3-4 races a year. I am 6'2 about 205 and 48 yrs old.

The Settlement is kind of a once in a lifetime opportunity to spend S-works level money. The choices are,

A brand new Epic Expert or Marathon.

    The S Works frameset

Be happy with my bike as currently upgraded.

I am leaning towards the frameset but I am putting it out there for some input?

I'd go with either and Expert WC or S-Works WC frameset. The WC is worth spending cash for.

Yes, I was reading your reply to some of the previous posts and I was agreeing with you. I am leaning towards the frame set because of the upgrades I have already done.

the disadvantage of the "frame" approach is that you won't have a comprehensive warranty over the whole bike as you would with your other alternatives. How big a deal this would be for you depends on your experience with Spec in your part of the world.

I went SW because I figured that it would be a bike that lasted me 5 years and that I would always enjoy although, in reality, my "best years" of racing are behind me. I haven't regretted that decision in the least.

The settlement money can be put on ice...right? :-) the part and bike you have now are really good...get some use from them and see what comes around in the fall.

Unless, you have a friendly dealer that can set you up with the sw WC frameset...then I would do that. The frameset is 5500 up here in Canada, and that hurts my feelings.

    Cheers

I could carve out 10k and invest it. Having said that, I could upgrade the brakes to XTR and throw a carbon bar on it and the only original part would be the frame. Also an SW or XO crankset may shave off some grams too.

I appreciate all of the input.

I would normally agree with this statement, however, I just got back from a 30 mile ride on my new WC. I can honestly say I was faster everywhere on it compared to my '12 S-Works. The suspension is so much more efficient that it holds momentum on climbs much better. Hanadling is amazing and it takes uphill switchbacks with less effort because it you arent fighting the front end.

    Here's my take.

If you don't want a WC frame (either Expert or S-works), then I would stick with what you have and maybe through a couple new things on there... nicer wheels, bar, etc.

The non-WC frames are going to feel VERY similar to what you have. If you were on a couple years older bike... I'd say go for it anyhow.

I would forget about the Marathon all together. The pricepoint on that bike is goofy.

The Expert WC is the best bang for the buck bike. You get a full X01 drivetrain, carbon wheels, decent brakes, and the WC frame with it's shorter stays, etc.

If there is anyway you can splurge a little more and get an S-works complete... do it

I am on the fence with the WC but I have been looking hard at the WC
expert. I agree the Marathon Pricepojnt is goofy.
