Dropper post w/ internal routing on 2017 Rockhopper Comp

    Hi forum,

I hope you all got some good rides over the holidays!
I'm new here, this is my first post. I signed up because I wanted to ask:

I have a 2017 Rockhopper Comp. It's stock and totally suits my needs. The only upgrade I've been thinking about is a dropper post.
Now for extra style points I was thinking internal routing (e.g. Specialized Command IRCC, RockShox Reverb Stealth...)
However, I couldn't find any openings in the frame to route the cable through. Is there none? Do I have to go external?
I'd hate to drill into the frame, partly because I'm not sure what that would do to the warranty, but also for lack of craftsmanship.

Looking forward to your insight, whatever the verdict will be, at least then I'll know for sure...

    Thanks in advance!
    Karim

Quick call to Spesh and they'll let you know if a hole in, say, the seat tube will void the warranty. My guess is yes...frame modification like that usually voids most OEM warranties. The good news is that it's an aluminum frame, not carbon. I had a hole drilled in my 2007 alu Nomad seat tube (exactly where the more recent versions had one) for an internal dropper by an independent mechanic with no prob, but I wasn't concerned with the warranty on the bike at that time. There's always the Gravity Dropper option. Style points may take a hit tho!

Hi Matt, thanks for your reply!

I take it then that the Rockhopper frame just isn't IR-ready.

For now I'm not going to drill into the frame either, but rather just go external (although probably not with the Gravity Dropper, I just can't get past the looks of that rubber boot...)

I'll post pics when it's done.
    Regards to all

Sounds good. Lotsa folks just remove that boot, btw. Still not a clean elegant look but maybe a bit better!
