Do Specialized shoes suck, or am I doing something wrong?

Tonight while ratcheting the upper strap on my BG PRO shoes, the plastic on the lever just broke. To be fair, the shoes are two years old but I haven't ridden them a ton, frankly (I have a young child).

This would be the second pair of mountain shoes from Specialized that had some kind of failure with the upper strap/strap components that has broken. I generally like Specialized stuff (currently have two of their road bikes, helmet, gloves, two jerseys, road shoes) but my experience with their mountain shoes has been terrible. I guess I expect a $250 pair of shoes to last longer than a couple seasons of light use.

So the question then - is it just me? Are others having these problems? I am ready to ditch their shoes all together and go with some Sidi's or something. What say you?

You know the lever is a replaceable part, right?

But to answer your question, I've had the strap tear out of the leather on mine. The part that can't be replaced.

I've just ordered some Mavic shoes as replacements.

I broke the sole on a pair last year, and the LBS arranged a replacement pair from Speshy. Other than that broken sole, I'm happy with the 2 pairs I've had.

I haven't looked in to it so until now I did not. My previous shoes also tore out of the leather and made those shoes unusable.

I've had a pair of specialized MTB shoes that are now at least 5 years old, I ride about 3 times per week. No problems with my ratcheting straps or any other part of the shoes. Comfortable and just as good if not better than my other pair of Pearl Izumi MTB shoes.

I love mine, but I have had ratchet problems from time to time. I've both had Specialized replace them for free and I've had to pay for a set.

The buckle on my BG Comps broke off while hab'ing...twice. I no longer buy any shoe with a buckle.

Same part broke on mine, pissed me off something fierce as I had been looking forward to that after work ride all day.

2 mtb pairs and one roadbike pair.
They look good and no complaints about quality, still they were a complete torture for my feet. Came to the point that unlike their saddles that fit my butt like they were molded on it their shoes are just not for me. Moved to SIDI and never looked back.

Got a pair of Pro Road for two years and one year on Comps for MTB...so far no issues.
