Went to test ride a few bikes with no intent on purchasing anything. I was convinced to try out a "long(er)" travel 29er. The picture tells the rest of the story.

Yep, I bought it new in '94 and it's still somewhat original. I did swap out the rigid fork for a Quadra 21r back in 1996 or so and just rebuilt it with Kronos springs.

The saddle, grips and tires are original but I'm about to replace all three in the next couple of weeks. Goodbye grey, hello black. :/

Had the bike for about 2 weeks now and it is without a doubt the best bike I have ever rode. It just seems to do everything well, I have yet to find a weakness. All it needs is a shorter stem and dropper post.

2011 Hardrock Disc. Purchased new at closeout price to make space for the '13.

My step at getting back into trails for the first time seriously since I was a kid (and I got a driver's license).

Great bike so far. Never owned a Specialized but so far very satisfied for what I paid for it.

Thanks. As per your quote of my post, the bar is a Carver MyTi Titanium handlebar. I'm actually considering swapping back to my Ragley Carnegie carbon/kevlar bar, which has very similar dimensions, just more rise and hands are slightly futher back. Just need to clean them up and try to prise the ESI's off the ti bars (which might be a struggle without a compressor).
    I see hills.

    I want to climb them.

I am now the proud owner of a 2013 Epic Comp 29er. I don't have a good trail pic yet because I've only ridden ~20 miles on it. Still getting the suspension dialed in, but I can tell you now that I love this bike!

I wasn't going to put the bar ends on my new Stumpy since I don't really use them, but I found that since I turn my bike upside down to remove the wheels so I can transport my bike, the bar ends keep my computer from getting scratched up. They have also deflected quite a few tree branches. So even though I never hold on to them, that is why they were put on.

Most definitely did not want another matt black one.

Wanted some Color. The LBS ordered from I pic and asked twice if I was sure.
He had his doubts as it was orange

Today went to pick it up, not only did he admit he was wrong, he had it exposed at the windows for passer byes.

I am not a fan of the matte paint finish myself. I had wanted a Superfly, but put off buying dhttp://forums.mtbr.com/images/smilies/thumbsup.gifue to the matte paint. Glad I waited and bought my nice glossy red/white/black Stumpy!

Was also doubting between a Trek and a Specialized. Was two different LBS, in the end i felt more confident with the advise from the other LBS, that and the fact that trek 29érs were as good as sold out, and specialized was delivering the 2013's early.

seems in Europe they underestimated the 29'er demands, everything was sold out, Cube, Scott, Trek, Canondale, at least in my region. Pretty sure with some calling and effort i may have been able to find one but bottom line is all was sold out. Which it is supposed to be as Interbike is in September.,

The matte black isn't bad at all, I had been drooling all over the Stumpy Evo HTs for the past 2 years until I got the matte black Carve this year

To be perfectly honest, I would have gone with the cyan/blue one as well. I love the retro look! I was totally bummed when my LBS said it wasn't an option in the states at this time, ugh!

Thanks Troll, bummed there isn't a carbon frame option but there has to be 10 in stock in order to do an employee purchase anyway. Plus I am not fast enough to warrant the 1+/- lb weight savings that the carbon front triangle has to offer lol.

The photo of my vintage is actually from the ad i purchased it from a few months ago. I need a new pic of it. Ive swapped out the seat, shifters, rear derailleur, and grips(they were junk unfortunately).

The 98-02 model had a new seat and threadless bottom bracket(got the bike for 200 with stripped bottom bracket lol) since i picked it up. Think im hitting my LBS and grabbing some new grips then hitting the state forest with it tomorrow. Weeee

    Sj fsr comp carbon.

Hi I recently got my hands on a 2012 SJ FSR COMP CARBON. and I am just loving it. With pedals I weight it at about 12,7kg With my stans/hope/tubless/furius fred wheel set it is just about 11,9kg I swap wheel sets depending on what I use the bike for. Commute and xc gets the stans sett but the original with knobby tiers for trails and downhill.

1990 Stumpy arrived in a box today.

This is a project I have been working on acquiring for a couple of months now. Seller had it on ebay and not one bid was placed.

I contacted about 3 weeks ago and arranged to buy and have the bike boxed up.

Arranged shipping from Adelaide S.A to Surfers Paradise QLD and collected it today from the bus depot

My mint 05 Rock Hopper 17". Bought in 05 and never used it. It has less than 10 miles on it. Time for it to get some use!

No mods except for a cat eye and a new serfas rx-921l saddle.

I love the color that's why I bought this one instead of the Black/Blue package that Specialized offers for this model.

    Hey guys!

You guys have some killer machines.
My Stumpy is in the 'Vintage' collection, lol, and I havent been to my LBS in a while for a sizing or to play with the new gear yet, so I ask, 29rs aside, (or not) are the 26" 'sizing' dimensions still the same? I guess what I mean is, I see a visibly radical difference in tube angles and lengths by contrast to my old Stumpy, at 6'2" and 34 inseam would I still be on a 19/Large frame?

I think so. Best to check at your LBS, but the critical dimensions still seem to "fit".

I got bored after finishing my old Klien Mantra project so I bought an old 07 S-Works SJ FSR Carbon frame and built it up over the last week.

...finally got the chance to give it a 6.5 mile shakedown this morning.

    Parts Breakdown:
2007 S-Works SJ FSR Carbon Frame
    Mavic CrossMax ST disc wheels
Avid Juicy Ultimate Carbon Disc Brakes (160mm - it feels under-braked, probably gonna upsize the discs)
    Maxxis Ignitor UST tires (2.25"fr/2.1"rr)
    Race Face Evolve 3x10 crankset
Answer Protaper 720 Carbon AM handlebar
    Ritchey adjustable stem
    Shimano XTR FD
    SRAM X.0 Type 2 10-spd RD
    SRAM X.9 3x10 shifters
    SRAM PG 1070 Cassette
    Fox TALAS 130 fork
Fox Float RL2 Propedal rear shock
KMC TiN (Titanium nitride - gold) 10-spd Chain
Giant Venture 1 saddle (super cushy for my butt)
    Ergon GP1 grips

Hi everyone, here is my rebuilt 2003? Hardrock. Its a bike that I rebuilt to be a spare if a friend wanted to come on a ride, and the wheel set is compatible with my Surly Troll. The Troll is my daily ride and a recent wheel failure led me to the idea of rebuilding the Hardrock with matching gearing and brakes so I could swap the wheel sets if need.

It also gave me the chance to try a 1 x10 using a Widgit up front. From a quick ride this afternoon the Hardrock might be out of the shed often. A few shots...

Hi everyone, had the rebuilt Hardrock out for its first ride on the trails this morning. Lucky for me these start a hundred meters from home

The first impressions of the 1 x 10 setup is positive, the hills are not too long or steep here. So the choice of the 32 tooth Widgit seems about right. A little chain rub when in the 36 on the back but other wise all is good.

    Recently finished build....

    Details on the plastic rocket:
    - 2010 Specy Stumpjumper Expert Carbon, XL/21"
    - 1x10 drivetrain
    - SRAM medium-cage Type 2 X9 (this thing rocks - not a peep of chainslap on the trail)
    - PG1070 11-36 cassette
    - Stylo 1:1 180mm cranks with Rotor 33T chainring
    - e.13 XCX-st guide
    - Roval Control wheels w/ DT 350 internals rear hub, 36T ratchet
    - specy Phenom saddle, Ergon grips
    - 720mm flatbar, 9 degree bend
    - Ritchey WCS seatpost/stem
    - Formula R1/X brakes
    - Ground Control front / Captain rear - tubeless on the Rovals

Because someone will ask: It weighs about 23lbs with pedals/bottle cages and GPS mount. When I add the Awesome strap with tube, CO2 inflator, spare CO2 cartridge and tire levers - 24.5lbs on the bathroom scale (take that for what it's worth).

It's stiff, fast, handles well and has relatively short seat stays. It's not flexy, at all. What are your questions?
