Carve Expert 2013 owners - feedback please!

I'm pretty much a Spesh fanboi!

Camber Expert 26er plus couple of road bikes and wife, son and daughter on all the big S hardtail's.

Anyway I'm slowly admitting that I'm less gnarly prone than I would like to be and my xc roots from BITD keep surfacing.

This got me looking at a Rockhopper Pro in a lbs the other day but it was a tad weighty. Plus the spec felt a big drop from the fs I'm used to.

Now I'm tempted with a Carve Expert. The lbs didn't have my size but can still get one. I love the look.

So, owners, what weight are they?

Can you lose the remote lockout?

I'd be tempted to add bar ends (which I miss) so have others done this? If so, has it suited the bike?

I want to cover distances offroad like I do on road. General bike trails, etc plus for family rides. But still have a play on the bike in the woods near home.

    Thanks in advance.

    Gday mate,

Ive owned one for about 2 months. i love everything about the bike, except the brakes. They a just crap. Ill take them back to be serviced, but probably move to a set of shimano xt's.

Not sure why you'd want to lose the remote lockout? Its a great feature.

Weight of the bike was 12kg exactly. Im running specialized bennies flat pedals. Otherwise stock.

Havent toyed with the idea of bar-ends, not necc for me.

any other questions, ill help out if i can.

    Thanks bro.

Looks more and more like the bike I should have bought last year instead of my Camber really.

I just miss bar ends, I was an early user of them (1990) and miss the extra position they give. I'd just go for stubby ones.

I've been offered a stonking deal so just got to justify 'another' bike in my head!

I've heard stories that 29ers wheels aren't always that strong. Have you had any issues?

I'm light and mainly do xc but crash over the rooty section and roll in's / small and smooth bombholes.

No issues to date re the wheels. I find the Reba shock requires a little more air in it than specified to avoid bottoming out.
Looking thru " post your ride" I have seen stubby bar ends added, so definitely something you can do.

    Thanks again.

I will start going through the Carve thread.

Interesting about the solo air Reba. I have dual air on mine now and have to run them 10psi lower to get the required sag then 2 clicks off fully open on the compression damper.

Does the remote lockout mean there is no in-between compression damping 'clicks'?

My usual shop offered such a good deal today I ordered the bike.

They had a 17.5" in store and with the stock pedals and all the reflectors, bell, etc on it that weigh 26lb dead.

I need a 19" but they reckoned the most that would add is half a pound.

My Carve Pro was almost 27lbs stock.

Its at 25lbs after switching out a bunch of parts and going tubless.

Love my 2013 Carve Comp, not the Expert you are asking about though.

Hope you got a good price, I'm seeing some pretty good deals now, 2013 Comp is $1199 here in town...

@RS VR6 - the shop I use was accurate on my road bike (I weighed it at home too). Is yours a '13 model?

@mudhen - yes, really good deal. Extra discount as returning customer.

I paid $1500 for mine in aus. Reduced from the ticket price of $2000. Very happy purchase for me.

    Yep...its a 2013 Pro.

Lost nearly a full pound by switching out the stock cranks.

    What size do you have?

Or is the Fox fork is heavier?

My plans are bar ends - which I think mean grips too if I looked properly.
Lightweight pedals. A bottle cage and Garmin mount to make up for all the reflectors, bell, spoke disc thingy I'll remove!
Then perhaps tubeless too. My dad is doing that on his KHS ht soon. He has that down to 24.1 lb ready to ride. (26er in size 17")

That sounds like an impressive bike.

Are there pics in the owners thread?

I'll post pics of mine once it arrives.
