Carve 2012 pro or Carve 2013 comp

I have been looking these two bikes. I got a chance to demo the pro 2012 for a few days and I really liked it. However going uphill was a little challenging on the steep stuff. The 2013 Comp has a 2 X 10 drivetrain with a 22 tooth small chainring vs the 24 on the 2012 pro. Will that make that much of a difference? Both have 11 - 36 cassettes. The 2013 has sram X7 and X5 versus XT parts on the 2012 pro. The 2013 comp has the same fork as the 2012 pro but has 100 mm of travel vs 80 mm on the 2012. The 2013 is about $500 less money than the 2012 pro. Which one is the better value and would I notice a lot of difference with the 2 X 10 drivetrain?

The 2012 pro also has better tires and wheels.

    Does it?

    2013 Carve Comp

Carve SL Disc, 29", alloy double-wall, sleeve joint, 26mm, 32h

    Ground Control tires.

    2012 Carve Pro

Carve Disc 29", alloy double-wall, sleeve joint, 32h

    Captain Control tires.

Looks like same wheels, but different tires(and I wouldn't say better?).

There's a $400 difference, and for that you get better deraileurs, shifters, and brakes; and 3x10 rather than 2x10.

It should really come down to how important that $400 is and if 2x10 is your preffered setup.

That is the rim spec. The hubs are different. Specialized branded on 13 comp vs formula on 12 pro.

I had a friend compare these two bikes and went with a stumpjumper comp. He said it was no contest and the stumpy rode so much faster and felt quicker. It was in the same price range of the Carve pro.
