    bash guard problems

I own a 07 stumpy fsr comp, I have dropped the 3rd chain ring for a e.thirteen bash guard, I have kept the 1st and 2nd gear. I never use the 1st gear, and would like to remove it, move the 2nd gear over have my 3rd gear back and protect it with a new gear guard, but apparently this is impossible. Because the 1st gear has a different mount, it mechanically can not move over. I thought I could get a large first gear and a large 2nd gear, that too is impossible. Then i thought that i may be able to have all 3 gears, but the mechanics at my local bike shop don't know if I can have 3 gears and a gear guard. This raises the question, why is there a 3rd ring gear protector, if you cant have a 3rd gear to protect?
I also considered getting a road bike crankset, and ring gears, but I cant get a mountain bike gear guard to fit on that, let alone the expense. what can I do, or am I thwarted at every attempt?

Salsa makes one that lets you use all 3 chain rings. The have a bash guard for all different set-ups.

Blackspire makes a couple too (that allow you to keep the big ring)

I've also heard that Envy makes one that can be mounted on the outside of the big ring.

    Envy Gear XC Ring Thing

And yeah your idea is a good one (moving the rings over) but unfortunately not quite possible.
I know you can get a bigger middle ring - like 36T or something, which alone without a granny would be pretty hard to pedal up the steeps. I suppose someone would make larger capacity granny rings as well but probably not by much. Maybe look into DH set ups, don't those guys run two bigger capacity rings up front along with a bashie?

I'm quite happy with 32t ring, bashie and inner plate up front for my terrain. Ethirteen outer & Envy Double E inner.
