Got the frame before the price when up. Paid $693, fair I think? Noticed that the box still had the packing slip from Spec $434 so the dealer made $259. Also had the price for the Epic FSR comp 29 $1755. Anyways back to the build.
Will build myself with XX group but it will take a few months with a few beers, not so bad! on it right now, RF turbin stem and next bars, GXP Ceramic BB (hope it last), FOX F29 Terralogic 15mm thru (100mm), Spec Phenom Expert saddle, Thomson post.
I dig that color on my Epic Expert, and I dig it on your HT. Very nice! Good luck with the ceramic BB. Although the FSA ceramic BB cups are probably different I have a 50% success rate with them. Hopefully the GXP's will treat you better.
Yep I like the color as well, although I am a OR Duck I just could not get into that lime green paint on the other frame.
As far as the BB goes I have no experience with the GXP but have read some bad reviews. I talked my LBS who called a rep who said that most likely the problems were abuse related but I will find out soon enough. Other option I will try is the CK GXP BB if this one does not last.
Yeah I've had the same Chris King BB on my cyclocross bike for going on two years now. That's two seasons of cross racing, and two winters, springs, and summers of road riding, and It's still spinning freely. Amazing and worth every penny.
Nice, I didn't realize those frames were in that price range, I guess I was thinking they cost allot more than that.
Maybe I should look at one of these instead of the niner frame I was considering???
Yes, I have the weights but I am not at home so I will post them when I get back next week. As I recall the frame and post was around 4lbs and current setup with XX crank is around 10 or 11lbs.
Funny about the post numbers, not sure how that happened but that might be a record…
Did the bike come with the set-back Thompson? Specialized website specs say Thompson but their pic shows some other seatpost. My frame should arrive this Monday, will post pics of the build
Nice, look forward to the pics. I am just now getting around to deciding on the wheel set, cant decide on ZTR 355 or Arch. I did a quick calculation on lbs for the final and it should be around 21 or 22lbs.
Looks fantastic how does she ride?I think I might go with those rims and CK as well. did you use the long or Med cage for the rear and high or low mount front?
First ride will be tomorrow, I have ridden a test bike several times and really love this geometry.
CK wheelset came off a singlespeed and are still breaking in.
Rear der. is a med cage. Front is a XX high mount. I have had really good results with bottom pull, road front ders on double rings. This is my first attempt with a top pull der on a 2x setup. Fingers are crossed
Finally got my 11’ Stumpjumper M5 29er up and running. I took her out for a quick five-mile test on road and single track and my first thoughts were that she is fast and the front end is squirrely. The Fox Terralogic forks work as advertised and the XX group is smooth and accurate. The Stumpjumper M5 frame has some flex as expected but it did seem to more than my old Klein Rascal? The XX Crank is stiff and just feels right however, after the ride I noticed a nice nick/chip in it at the bottom, I don’t care about scuffs in my bike but it does worry me that a short easy ride could produce that so fast. The CK hubs are a little sluggish right now but more ridding will take care of that. I went tubeless with the Flow rims and only had one issue so far. The Presta valve core un-screwed when I took the plastic valve cap off and the tire deflated, I tightened it up and so far no leaks. The bikes weight is 23.1 lbs very respectable. This is a fast bike but it will be my last aluminum frame, time for Carbon I think.
