2011 Epic 1x9 chainguide
I'm looking into converting to a 1x9 setup on my epic. The bb mount chainguides can't be used and the seat tube ones can't be used either. Has anybody made some type of chainguide work?
OR does anybody know if Specialized will be selling the DMD 1x10 chainguide that is on the 2011 epic EVO?

MRP will be producing a 1X that will work very soon. Cheers

I asked my local dealer to order me one yesterday for my pivot. They were on the phone trying to get me an answer on availability/price but I had to get back to work. They're supposed to call me.

I had the following email exchange with MRP in July:
From: Mark Gullett
Sent: Friday, July 16, 2010 12:57 PM
To: info@mrpbike.com
Subject: 1.X with DMD mount
Are you close to releasing a 1.X with a DMD mount? My bike (2010 S-Works Epic) has press in cups on the bottom bracket so the standard BB mount won't work.
I'd love to switch to a 1x10 setup and I think your 1.X guide would be perfect.
Thanks,
Mark Gullett

Hi Mark,
Unfortunately no date of release yet. We are still several months out on development processes.
Have a great day!

It was a really fast response which was nice. Anyway I started tooling around with making my own chainguide and posted a thread here on one that was ok but my chain would still come off from time to time. In the end I decided to just get an MRP guide and make my own mount. I've been pretty happy with the results. (I've lowered it a bit since some of these pictures were taken)

I used aluminum. I got a piece from home depot that's 4 inches wide and about 4 feet long. It was pretty easy to work with.
When MRP releases their mount I'll pick one up. I just didn't want to wait.

Nice piece Mark.
I was thinking about bending something up like that but it sounds like MRP is going to release their guide in a few weeks.

It'll be longer than a few weeks, I misspoke yesterday. They're still a bit out, the DMD design presented quite a few hurdles!

I doubt it will fit. Our seat tubes are not exactly round and they have the bend/increase in size down in the bottom bracket area.

More typical behavior of my local specialized dealer... they haven't called me back. I kind of forgot. I'll try to get this kid on the phone today and find out. Went through this same BS trying to get a pivot bolt for a bike before.
Here's what happens if I ask these guys to order something :
1 - They deny it exists.
2 - I make them pull out their dealer book and I point it out. Manager comes over and asks "why do you need that ?", like I'm going to build a bomb with it or something.
3 - They admit it exists and go on to say its not available.
4 - I put money for a deposit on the counter so they'll at least call and find out.
5 - They never get back to me.

The XCX.ST high mount might fit. We were showing off our XCX.Etype at Interbike...I'll look around for pictures. It will be released shortly after the XCX.ST at the end of the month (actually, I think they're shipping to distributors now), and was specifically designed for Specialized/Niner/anyone else with a frame mounted E-type config.
*edit* The ST version is adjustable between a 50-53mm chainline...the 53mm being for Sram XX/X0/X9/X7 dual ring setups...the outer ring is actually a 53mm-ish Chainline and the inner portion is somthing like 46mm CL (53+46/2 = 49.5mm. CL for dual setups is somewhere between the two rings).

Great news. Now if you guys will make a 4 x 120 BCD version of your Guiderings then it would be perfect.
Seriously, has anyone found a singlespeed chainring that will fit the XX spider?

No, I do not have a chainguide on my bike yet. I would really like to get one on there, but I haven't really been searching all that hard. I know the e*thirteen XCX supposedly has one that will fit, but I haven't gone down to my LBS and talked to them about it.

I'd like to convert my 2009 Epic s-works to a 1x10 or 2x10 set up, but strongly prefer to continue using my sram grip shifters. Difficult to find someone that has found a solution to this...

I don't know how you can get the adapter though. I used one that came on a stumpy that I made 1X10 with a Paul BB mount.
