Does any one know if there is any changes to the 2009 stumpy frames and shocks?

I wish they'd change the whole bike back to the 07 frame and stick with Fox shock and fork. I'm sure the 09's will be sporting some type of Specialized front fork. They will probably keep the same ugly frame as the 08's though. With the same ugly decals and colors. And who knows about the rear shock. I am alone in not liking the look of the new Stumpys? Not only are most of the colors ugly but the whole frame is just awkward looking IMO.

I agree the 2008 Stumpjumpers colors are ugly. The exception is the S-works IMO. I saw a carbon Pro today that wasnt bad either, but the "army" color on the alloy Pro model is too weird for me.
Hopefully the 2009's have a simpler paint scheme......how about a nice black anodize with minimal graphics like the 2006's ?

Well, I like 'em, and I like mine - "ugly" paint and all

I would expect for 09 for more of the line to have the specialized fork, as opposed to 3rd party stuff. And I wouldn't hold my breath for single-color paint schemes either. They've done that recently, and all the other lines feature some decent, relatively subdued graphics this year.

    Love my 08

I think the expert and compls are sweet looking bikes in the silver or ti color. However, I have seen the blue and white comp and think it is an abomination upon the eyes.

Who cares how the frame tubes look??? I care about how the bike rides and the new SJ are sweet.

You're absolutely right. Sorry for my digression......guess im just frustrated because I like the older graphics better, plus I had a few beers in me when I replied last night.
I'm wondering the same thing about changes to the suspension or frame design. I would imagine not much would change this year because of the big changes last year. Maybe we'll see a Specialized fork on the less expensive models.

I think this is a new color scheme for the Stumpy expert or pro, so still a fox at the front.

And this is a new scheme for the comp:

More pictures can be found here: http://bikybiky.pinkbike.com/album/S...t-the-Titisee/
The pictures are from a European dealerday, so I don't know if these are European only schemes, but I do not expect this.

I've got an 08 Pro frameset in black. By far the best looking of the bunch, but Specialized red would be sweet! If they don't with a red frameset I'll strip mine down and have it painted red...to match my truck.
The blue on the Comp I think, is a pretty sweet color with the white fork, bar and saddle. Would look even better with a set of those new white DT Swiss XR4.2d rims!
As for the Specialized rear shock...guess what...it's manufactured by the same company and in the same building as FOX.

    '09 S-Works M5 HT picture? Anybody?
Decided to swap my '99 Stumpjumper M2 Comp to something newer. But cannot decide - do i wait until '09 frame or buy '08 one. Picture of new one might help drastically

There are more than one threads in this forum that show pics of '09 bikes including the stumpy hardtail. Just look around for threads that mention '09 bikes and include pics. The pics that I have seen all look really nice. Good luck with your choice, post some pics when you make your decision,

To all the specialized specialists (lol):
I'm a brain believer so say I wanted to get the comp frame because it's white, would I be able to convert it to a brain bike, or is the rear triangle etc. different on the non brain equipped frames. Not talking about cost effectiveness or anything just want to know if the components are interchangeable.

    Thanks!

I just talked to a sales shark at a local bike shop who told me that the only changes to the 09 Stumpjumpers would be the price - about a 15% hike - and colors.

Of course, it's hard to trust a shark!

what about the 09' stump 29r hardtail?

-- I see an new color in the pictures, frame looks basically the same

-- I see the new reba fork

-- Any geometry changes for 09' -- revised head tube ange along with a new reba with more offset?

Aaaaaaaand here it is. A pic of some of the frames and the Sworks carbon. The comp comes with the speccie brain, tweaked as it is for 09 and a Talas 140 up fromnt. The S-Works as you see comes in all Speccie fork-shock combo. The Sworks has 120mm front/back and climbs beautifully as well as descending well, only becoming a tad twitchy when pushed too far. The Comp is a damn fine trail bike, more stable than the Sworks due to the 140 fork. The rear suspension works so well I did not even notice it had bottomed out until I looked at it at the end of the run. The new suspension is soooo much better than last years, no stiction whatsoever and tuning it is easy. Every single rider I saw coming down the slope at the dealer event had a huge grin on their face!
And now I am torn between it and the Enduro......damnit!!!!

Oh...and look closely and that is the new SX behind the frames

I bought a new 2008 stumpjumper comp about two weeks ago and LOVE IT. My friend has the 07 comp and my suspension is much more stiff on the smooth trails.

    Zendog13,
Do you mind clarifying which color is which trim (expert, comp, pro, etc.) Reason I'm asking is because you said the comp comes with the Spesh brain, but on the pic there's a white frame w/o the brain (Maybe it's the elite?)
I was all set on getting a 120mm fork for my 09 build but if Spesh is putting 140s on there then it's back to the drawing board.
    Thanks!

    Exactly what I thought!

And it seems to me that the white one has the same cranks as 08 Pro model, and the grey one seems to have no Brain... so I guess it's either Elite or Comp.

And what about the shock travel? Is it gonna be 140 mm or 120 mm?

    Cheers!

I bought an 08, I dig it, she rides great.

Now Spec is gonna do 140mm forks in front, D'oh! Now I want that!

Spec has this ability to simply make you want whatever they produce.

I also bought an 08 fsr comp. It is really sweet for the price and I have no regrets. The only minor complaint I have is the triad rear shock is not the greatest, but still I have so much fun riding. If the 09's are have any improvements over the 08's then it would be an even sweeter ride.

Hmmm.....My local dealer just received a 2009 catalog today. We flipped to the Stumpy FSR Comp page and that bike was all silver (instead of white), and came spec'd with a 120mm fork (not 140). I'm confused....

    go-pirates,
Next time you are at your dealer would you mind checking what the other trim level colors are. I'm most interested in the frame only colors, and especially hoping for a carbon (non s-works) frame only option this year.
Found these pics today, maybe you guys can decipher the trims...I'm just basing my guesses on the rear shock brand and if i see a brain.

I think the whole mix up between the 140mm and 120mm fork on the 09 is because the TALAS is ADJUSTABLE........It has 3 settings 100mm, 120mm, and 140mm. They say 120mm because that is what all the other stumpys are and it is also the middle setting.

Could be. But I'd be very surprised if the Comp model came spec'd with an expensive Talas.

'09 is getting a Talas on the nicer aluminum models, and a Futureshock on the carbon bikes. You will only see Triad and Brain shocks on Stumpy's. Overall, the frame is unchanged, with slight parts changes
Colors look good overall. The most unique option is "Mardi" that is on the Pro Frameset, which has a black base and purple and neon green accent stripes, with a purple link. As disgusting as that sounds, it's kinda cool in person (this coming from the owner of an '08 green Pro).
You should be able to see the new '09 catalog and prices at your local dealer, though most of the high end won't be available for a while. Prices are up from last year ~10%, so I would commit to an '08 if there is a good option for you. If interested, you can contact me for details or pre-orders (my shop is near Seattle).

Well, I'm glad to see they went back to a TALAS 32 (140) as a fork instead of the F120. I mentioned doing that with the 08 and all I got was a pinhead claiming that I was "trying to out-engineer Specialized." The parts spec reminds me of my 07 Elite, but I need to go over the geometry once it's posted online (I read over it at the shop, and I dig the new Enduro SL with the single-crown Fox instead).

Wow, is it just me or does that S-Works Stumpy's top tube look much thinner than last years? Also did they cut some material from the rocker, is that new?

i think the 08 and 09 frames are no where near as nice as the 07 frame, its ashame. i wouldnt upgrade my stumpy comp 07 for the 08 or 09 frames, and the decal is ugly also.

I want the 08+ rear shock arrangement, as I've had the rear shock spindle break too many times on my 2005 Stumpjumper Expert Disk.

I don't want the finicky specialized front shock.

Since the 2008 pro frame is sold out and the 2009 isn't out yet, and since the S works uses the problematic front shock, Specialized just doesn't have a new bike for me.

I'm ready to buy, but Specialized isn't ready to sell. Quite disappointing....

    '09 Frames available

The '09 SJ Pro Framesets became available a few days ago. The only colors are Mardi and Warm Silver.
They include a Thomson seatpost and DMD XT front derailleur, along with the new co-molded chainstay protector and Brain shock.

'08 and '09 FSR 29er frames are also available in all sizes. '09 is alot cheaper because of the Triad shock (instead of Brain)

If anyone is interested, I can get them...

That opinion is based on a couple of the Specialized & sworks threads in here, and the opinion of the service guys at a LBS. It was hard walking out of the shop without that pretty 08 Stumpy Sworks frame, and I'll bet it was hard for them to warn me away.

Problematic is probably the wrong word. Based on the conversation, "finicky" is a better word. I'm replacing a bike because I've had too many issues, and I made it clear I was after something that would be more problem free.

Someone just said the 09 Stumpy Pro is out. I'll probably give that a shot.

Don't write-off the Futureshock - it's amazingly responsive, ridiculously light and the internal brain means you don't ever need to worry about lock-out. (I recently went down a severe trail on my hardtail with a Reba fork locked-out by mistake. Once you're half way down and in the thick of it it's too late to do anything about it! )

Give me the Spesh fork any day. Besides which, my research shows only about 5% have given problems. Finicky, yes - to set up - but once it's set up, it's fantastic.

    Just my 10c worth...

Aaah, I thought it is as problematic as the E150.

After picturing the Stumpy Pro mardis gras paint job with a white RLC fork, and after seeing and reading some great reviews on the manners of the S-Works, I'm on the brink of buying the very sexy 08 S-Works frameset.

I figure I'll have a few shock problems, but the 5 year warranty, Specialized's consistency in taking care of the customer, and my great LBS are just enough to tip me into having confidence.

Anyone want to talk me out of it? I'll probably buy before noon....

That quick and dirty photoshop is the mardis gras color with the Fox RLC. They don't sell them together, but that's the fork I wanted.

Bright and colourful for sure! You need to wear shades to look at that frame... a bit busy for me though - think I'll stick to my plain old carbon black with bronze fleck... boring hey?

I thought the combo looked like someone ate a box of crayons and then puked. Looks weren't a huge priority for me, but I couldn't stomach that combo.

After re-riding the LBS demo bike, I just ordered the 2008 Stumpy S-works frameset. It just felt too quick and light to pass up, and I figured I'd take advantage of the 08 vs. 09 pricing.

Time has slowed to a crawl.

    Great choice, but...

surely you could get the 2008 SW full package on discount now - which would be heaps cheaper than building up from a frameset...?

I'm bringing over most of what I need from my soon to be retired old bike. The price difference between the frame and the full bike was in the range of US$4,000.

Specialized came through. Had a frame crack with my 04 and they repalced it with a 2009 Pro in that warm silver. It is pretty nice bike. The geomtery is a little different so it will take a few trips to get use tot he bike. Now i need to upgrade my fork. Talas or 426 Revelation. Not sure which, both 09 models of course.

Not talking about cost effectiveness or anything just want to know if the components are interchangeable.

    Thanks!
    Simple answer: no.

I was going to do the same thing, but the Comp doesn't have the mount point for the Brain on the rear triangle. Everything else is the same, though, frame wise.

My understanding is the QR15 is a FOX/Shimano thing for 09. I did not see anything saying RS will do a QR15 in 09. If I am wrong pleaase let me know. I have been leaning toward a QR 426 U-turn Dual Air.

Not only are most of the colors ugly but the whole frame is just awkward looking IMO.
I think this frame is slick looking, like a knife blade on wheels.
