I just had the same issue with my 2012 SJ fsr. Although I've had mine for about 6 months before the rear hub failed, which evidently is an issue for a lot of people. So I brought it back to where I bought and they put on a SRAM X9 hub free of charge (warranty work). This was two days ago and I haven't ridden it yet, but everything I've read on them says that they're not much better than the stock one.
Yeah, he was right and wrong at the same time. They do offer a model with the standard quick release too. Go to the SRAM website and check it out, you'll see that they have a direct replacement for the stock one.
Good choice, I would have gone the same route if they said it wouldn't be covered under warranty. If the X9 fails, my next hub will be from Hope.
