08fsr xc pro vs. 09 fsrxc comp

getting taxes back in a couple weeks and looking around for a full-suspension trailbike. the lbs has a 09comp and a 08expert (both are specialised fsr xcs) on closeout within $50 of eachother. both bikes are brand new just never sold. obviously the 08 pro has better components but im more concerned about the handling of the bike with the 08 having a horizontal shock and the 09 has a vertical shock. what would the different handling characteristics be, and how big of a difference would it make?

    just over a grand... i think $1150 for the 09, $1100 for the 08 or vice-versa.

forgot to mention that the 08 has 4" travel the 09 has 5" just incase anyone didnt know off-hand.

I had a choice last year between an 08 xc expert and 09 xc comp, test rode both on a section of singletrack behind the shop. I ended up liking the 08 better, seemed to climb better but this could have been the set up, an extra inch of travel is a nice thing though. Anyway no regrets, both bikes are great, ride them and then make your decision.

That's a pretty good price on the 09, if the prices had been that close together I would have most likely got the 09, the extra inch would have been nice on some of the trails I bomb down. Pull the trigger, don't wait another year, FS is very sweet, doubt you'll be sorry.

go for the stumpy, thats the bike you really want so it will be worth it to wait and go for it, if i had to pick between the 2 XC's i would go for the 08, you get an inch of extra suspension with the 09 but id take that reba air and triad over the 09 bike any day.

+1 for the Reba, great fork. You won't be satisfied with the Tora for long.
