06 Specialized Enduro Expert or SX?

    Guys,

The new Enduro Experts will have rear Fox DHX Air shocks. It's a bit more all around than perhaps the SX. I am bigger at 210lbs, 6'3", and like the feel of 5th coil. But that comes at a price with the bike weighing at 38lbs. Thoughts?

I'm looking at an all around mtn bike...

I'd say go for the regular Enuduro if you want the bike to do more than go down well. The Air in the rear has a huge resevoir and low leverage ratio, so if there's anywhere an air shock is going to work well, its in this application. The on-trail adjustability of the Air is going to be the best feature, and saving a pound is going to be darn nice too. I think the only real drawback is that being an air shock there might be some issues with heat on super long downhills.
If you buy the SX stock, its also going to have all kinds of heavy gear on there - like you said 38#s. The Expert is going to weigh about 32#s. I was considering the same two things you are, and think I'm going to end up getting the regular Enduro, but swapping out the TALAS for the Vanilla. Coils count for more in the front than in the rear imho.
Its going to be one hardcore all mountain. Its funny to think how 5 years ago a bike with this kind of quality travel probably weighed 10 lbs more...crazy.

Is that a large? My '05 large s-works enduro came stock at 31.5lbs. I wonder were they dropped the weight?

I'm guessing it's a large. I emailed Spec to ask how much a couple of their '06 bikes weighed, to help me decide what bike to get. I was told the Enduro Expert was 30lbs. No idea where they dropped the weight.

Yeah, I've got a buddy that works for Spesh, and he said 32lbs too.

One of my biggest concerns is going from a Bullit that had a 5th Element coil and SuperT fork that is all coil, to air stuff, like the Fox 36 and Fox DHX Air....

I guess I'll take a chance. i'm leaning towards the Enduro Expert....

i test rode an Enduro Expert (L) today and compared it side by side to the Stumpy Expert (L) and there is maybe a 2lb difference between them. i felt way more comfortable on the Enduro.
