Update on Clear Springs/Homochitto
This is the official word from Steve Harris, the Rec Ranger for the park:
Hi Brian,
I received notice this morning that, unfortunately, our trail systems have
not been considered for emergency funds, and we are to keep the trails
closed. The earliest we are looking at to reopen them is mid-October, and
more realistically, late October or after. We are in the preliminary stages
of an extensive trail assessment where we have at least 3 bridges damaged,
scores of down trees, and many hazard trees to be removed. We are planning
to have all the obstacles removed at once with a contract crew once funds
are released to us. I will check with our operations team and determine if
there are any useful volunteer projects, but at this point, with the
contract, they should be able to do all of it for us.
Please bear with us, most of our people are off district helping with the
hurricane cleanup, we are shorthanded, and things will move even slower
than usual for awhile. You can pass on to others that Clear Springs
campground is now open with special instructions posted for hurricane
refugees. If you need anything else, I will try to oblige as best as I
can.

I'll keep everyone updated on workdays, etc..
Thanks!
