How are they going to charge a gate fee for a public park?

I'm not saying I don't want to pay, I'm just curious.

They have the keys to the gate, it shouldn't be too difficult.

seems to be just an "event" fee. it would be bs if you coulnd't park at the regular trailhead as usual. I agree that it's not a big deal to cough it up though. paying at the toe was always worthwhile.

will you not be able to ride the vortex trail that day or is it just the free ride and jump section that will be closed for the comp. Thinking about coming up and camping that weekend.

Usually it's just the freeride and DJ area that is in use. The vortex rim trail should be fine to ride.

The gate fee is for OMBA-Ocala Mountain Bike Association which is the local group that maintains the trails. It's a small price to pay for the great job they do there.

You are usually not allowed to park there. There is a locked gate and it actually takes a little technical skill to ride your bike over the adjacent rocks unless you want to carry your bike under the gate or take a trail around. If the group sponsoring the race has purchased liability insurance for the event, rented the space from the Office of Greenways & Trails, and gotten approval for everything, then they can definitely charge for parking to help offset the costs of putting on the event.

It seems to be reasonable to me for them to charge for parking there. You won't find me in dirt jump/free ride competition, but I support all types of mountain biking activities and think we should all be glad to support a group that is putting on an organized event. (While I won't ride, I will go out to watch and share in the fun).

Parking at the trailhead to get out of a small gate fee for the vortex is pretty weak. A little show of support is not a lot to ask. Riders will have access to all the vortex trails, but the drop and jump area will be for people who are competing only I believe.

There is a first timer beginner class this time around... some of you spectators should step up...

Yeah if you are going to the comp whatever pay the $3 bucks but for people just out there riding the trails that day shouldn't have to pay, not like I really care because we are gonna park over there and pay anyway.

Quit being a huge gaping vagina. If you enter the pansy division I will too, HAHA. I'm more worried that 40 degrees plus lots of wind equals lots of cold.

    Good times!

I stopped by a bit to watch while riding.

(i was out there with the rest of the Higher Ground team) we were quite out of place on our xc bikes, and lycra shorts...was kinda awkward

But deffinately some sick riders out there!
You know what sucks worse than training? Losing.
You know what sucks worse than losing? Nothing.

    Ride on

I've got 80+ photos I will to try to post, but I'm not a professional photographer and certainly not a techie.

Who can tell me how to upload images?

(They are saved as jpeg images in an iphoto library--I'll e-mail them all to someone if you wan to post them. Some are junk, a few a quite good, but mostly I think the people in the pictures would be interested. Especially the guy who took a bad spill on the wooden bridge drop--I've got him heading down head first just before impact--he wasn't hurt so now it is something we can all laugh about.)

I've got 80+ pics. The problem is the files are too large to upload. I can't even e-mail them. I've tried to send them to tunelvision, but can't even get the e-mail to go through.

If anyone posts pics on a site where larger files can be stored, let me know. I can burn them to a disc and mail them to you for posting.

I think I've successfully uploaded them to photobucket. See if you can link to them here:

    http://s269.photobucket.com/albums/j...wingo/?start=0

There are about 5 pages of images. My favorite is image 50. There are some good photos, some terrible, but I just put them all up there.
