All this rain today (and tomorrow, looks like) has me wondering - do they close the trails at all for this? I'd doubt it, as erosion isn't an especially big problem down here, but just a thought to save me a long hike out there to get skunked.
    Anyone?
    Thanks
    Cheers

Route 66 will most likely be closed, must most all others should be open, prepare to get muddy. I was going to head out myself this afternoon, but don't feel like mud in my @ss crack today.

From past experience with this much rain, 66 will be closed soon if it hasn't already.
The park will remain open but it is in the best interest of the trails not to ride them while it is raining to avoid erosion. It is better to ride after the rain has passed. The plans are to fill in most of the lost elevation but that depends on $$ and manpower.

Surprise surprise! Rte 66 is still open and the trails are pretty dry and fast considering the rains of late.
A few riders and I will be doing some cut-back on Warm-up, Gunrange and other trails tomorrow in the early AM, so please ride carefully as we will use power tools... The vegetation is now out of control in a few area's..

Cutback on Gunrange is complete and a few minor growth issues on Outback have been addressed also. There were 5 of us and even with power tools it took over 3 hours just to clear Gunrange!!

I have high hopes it lasts for a few weeks at least. So far the rain has not been too bad and I hope that the Fakawi event/race tomorrow will go on.

Rode this AM and the trails are in great shape despite the rain in the weekend . It looks like we're drying out a little, so the few mud puddles that are present should be gone shortly.

    Good job!

^^ Hope you had a great ride!

This coming Sunday July 1st is trail maintenance day in Markham and we sure can use a few peeps with cut back of the overbearing vegetation... There will be some trail repair too, but personally I will focus on cutting the veggies which in turn will reduce the bugs too...

We did a lot of trimming and added a new little trail as well. Also fixed were a few of the log-overs/drops like the one at Iguana trail leading into Fisherman's Loop. It was quite warm so unfortunately not too many people showed up... Oh well next time around

    love this trail system...

I forgot my shades last time I went and had my left contact lens snatched off my eye by some vegetation...had to get rid of the right one too because it's too weird to have one eyesight blurry and the other normal...

Oops. I had to use my cheap spare glasses yesterday as I forgot my riding glasses too. I won't ride in any trail system without glasses as an eye is easily lost....
We have been trying to cut down as much vegetation as possible, but there is always something growing back pretty quickly.
The trails should be totally done for the 'Rumble in the Jungle' race in early August.

The 15th we will be trying to cut back the remainder of the trails. Last Friday, only Warmup loop was done, so there remains lot's to do before the Rumble in the Jungle race in early August

I believe the route includes some areas around the trails, its not 100% trails.

Correct, because only a few peeps would be able to ride 5 laps on all the tails..
    This doesn't include me BTW..
If you do a team effort of 4 riders, than all one person does is about 12.5 miles and that is doable for most IMHO.

Keep in mind too that it is a benefit 'race' so it is mostly about the camaraderie and a great cause.

So the total length of the race (lap) is like 12.5 miles and its done 4 times?
... Or its a 50 mile (lap) and each member of the team does a section?

I am one of those that COULD NOT do it five times around, lol...

I am in if it's a team and each rider does 12 - 15 miles...If a new team needs to be created for MTBR users I am in...I won't be the fastest though , lol...

I have a few friends who may want to ride it but I don't know for sure how many would do a team effort. I won't ride the solo thing either as 30-35 miles is about it in the heat for me...

Be prepared for some trail work tomorrow as we NEED to cut back the vegetation. Anyone who wants to help out, we start at 8:30 AM and meet at the gate. bring work gloves, water and bug spray. We have machetes, but if you have a gas powered weed trimmer that would be huge...

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that there are large rocks that have been dug up and placed in the middle of many trails? Looks like some kids have been bobby traping the trails. They are large enough to send someone over their handlebars...

I will be riding again tomorrow as I was doing cutback today. Hopefully we don't have some morons messing with the trails as we are getting so close to getting the trails in good order. I have noticed in rockgarden that some material is being removed or replaced. Those peeps run the risk of being permanently banned when, not if, they get caught. I'll make sure there will be more patrols out there to keep it safe.

I have noticed this as well, especially in rock garden. There is also another area on twisted trail, a 5 foot very rocky climb, that someone keeps screwing with.

Ted's or Twisted trail was actually being repaired when we had that cloud burst and all the material washed away. It will be repaired this Sunday as it is part of the Rumble route albeit in reverse....

Today everything seemed to be in order , even in RG, and I ended up doing 2 laps. The loose rocks may also be from riders hitting them and working them out over time. It seems to happen a lot on Armadillo and Area 51 before Pipeline.
There will be more Patrol peeps out there too keeping an eye out. Folks who think they can wreck the trails can/will be prosecuted as trespassers and be perma-banned from Markham.
If there are issues, riders can inform the front office in Markham and it will be taken care of.

Online registration for the Rumble in the Jungle (August 5th) has been slow. Please register now! It really helps the volunteers putting on the race (the same people you ride past while they're slaving away on Trail Maintenance Day.) Early registration is important. They can plan for port-a-lets, food, drinks, race numbers, medals, etc .... Yes, it may snow, or your bike breaks or your cat has puppies and you don't get to ride.So what? You donated $25 to the trails. Big deal. Markham is the oldest and perhaps the best trail in SoFla and we don't get a dime of County or other public money; yep, we supply all the labor, tools and materials! This race helps fund that and 100% of the money raised goes into the trails. Plz sign up today.
