    Haw Ridge singlespeed friendly?

    Greetings,

I'm a former Knoxvegan who will be back in town the Thanksgiving weekend.

Haw Ridge seems to be the closest and best place to ride. I have the option of either bringing my SS 29er geared at 32/17 or my 26" full geared bike.

Having never ridden the Ridge before, would I be better off bringing the 26er or the 29er?

I know lots of folks that ride HR on their SS's. I don't think you'd be disappointed. For specific gearing info you may check out www.knoxvillecycling.com.

Haw Ridge is really two distinct different trail types, the ridge trails and the shore trails. The shore trails are very easily singlespeedable. The ridge trails, not to be missed, are more challenging on a singlespeed.
If you are looking for a good loop that covers a good cross-section, I would ride the Hill of Truth loop, or a variation of. Those trails are in great shape.
I can't seem to find a map of the 07' course, but you can find a map of the whole park here: http://www.cs.utk.edu/~dunigan/mtnbike/haw.html

Thanks for all the replies folks!

I decided that, based on a first time basis, I will be bringing my 26" geared Rocky Mountain in "Vol" Orange. If anyone's interested in taking a Haw Ridge virgin out next week, hit me up with a pm.

If not, I'll see you on the Ridge maybe?!?
