it rained there yesterday and today the trails were PERFECT! All but a couple of the loosest spots are packed in and you can really rail the turns! Especially near the end after camel humps!

It all depends on how fast you ride...obviously, the slower you go, the longer it takes

The trail is currently in excellent shape. Total mileage is right around 6.9 miles. Current lap leaders are Bob Mcarty at 29.xx mins and Stephen La Rue and 30.xx minutes. My current fastest recorded lap is a 36.11.

Sooooo, I got serious and rode on my new 29r at Amelia yesterday and got around 35 min for a lap....I am not racing, but for me that was fast enough. Needless to say I was too tired for a complete lap #2.. This heat and humidity.....

I'll start/stop at the entrance and exit at about the same spot. I had to get used to riding the trail the "right" way around again..... I like the reverse a little better.... I guess this will start a firestorm...

I wish something can be done about kids riding the trail without helmets and are clueless on the direction of the trail. I enjoyed both directions, can't decide which way is better

At least I don't see any X country runners on the trail, like there are in Markham..

I see quite a few runners on the trails and know a couple, most are incredibly good at looking out for riders.... its the few that have no clue that......

Well since the skeeters are bad in Amelia and Markham maybe they'll stay away. There is a tree down in Amelia about 3/4 mile in.. The rain and wind just blew over a dead pine tree. Needs a chainsaw to be removed....
The trail is in great condition considering the 3" of rain we got yesterday...

If you're not keen on dousing yourself in DEET like most people you can try Lemon Eucalyptus bug spray that you can buy now at Walmart and I can imagine other places. I spray it on when we're doing trail work at Vkey and it works great!

Its been found to be just as effective as DEET but natural....

I soaked myself in that citrus repellent and the only thing that helped was not stopping. It doesn't bother me too much cause it lasts a few months of the year.

That sucks mang! They are horrible in the Keys too. I just came back to check my skiff and got hammered in the yard..
I am happy about the much needed rain though despite the annoyance..

There is OFF Outdoors that doesn't stain/wreck your riding gear. Kinda embarrasing if your shorts disolved while riding...

Rode yesterday and the trail was in amazing shape! Rode it without stopping for the first time ever and finished it in 40 minutes the first lap, and 36:15 the second one.

Hoping to shave some more time off by the time the 12hr race comes around!

Rode today after a few rains and the trails are still in great shape. Just a cpl rough spots with mud but not a big deal. Trails are fast as ever. Good job to the guys busting their asses so that we have a place to ride.

since there is a race at Amelia Earhart on 08/14...does that mean the park trails are closed to non-race participants? I have never been to that park and was going to try it out on Sunday. Also, I cannot seem to find information about when the race starts and ends; I don't want my exploration of the park to slow down racers, if I even allowed out there.

Cool. Tx for the info! I'll try to ride Amelia tomorrow. Just did Markham this AM and apart from wear and tear due to rain and racing the trails are in good shape. There was more mud on Sunday than this AM but there was no rain either...
