    North GA fire roads

ok, I'm new to mountain biking and new to Georgia, but I am off this friday and if its not raining I would like to get in a ride. I know the trails will still be too wet to ride but I was hoping to put in some miles on some fire roads. Does anyone know some good options?

    Thanks.

I understand that they hardly ever close Tribble Mill in Gwinnett county. They are pretty good about keeping Harbins open too. I plan to try to get out tomorrow or Fri. PM me your cell# and I can text you to verify. Gwinnett County has a trail hotline number, but it isn't kept up-to-date very well.

Also, Unicoi State Park near Helen was open during a rainy spell this summer. It is more like gravelly logging roads than singletrack, so it doesn't get too muddy. Call the park and ask. LOTS of climbing -- the only real mountain biking I have ever done The trail is kind of figure-8 shaped, so you don't have to do the whole thing. However, it is only about 7 miles, so you probably won't have any problems. But if you have been thinking about removing your granny ring, wait until you get home

Great thread - I'd love to find some of those gravel grinding options around Dahlonega or Cleveland and do some bikepacking soon.

Last summer my wife and I had Woody's shuttle us up to Unicoi Gap and rode forest service roads back to Helen. Went by Horse Trough Falls. 15 miles and there seemed to be some more roads in the area to explore. Looked like some god camping spots Also just north of Helen there are forest service roads going up towards Trey Mountain. However I have not explored towards Trey.

Did this ride last month, the climb up wildcat is awesome with diks creek running beside the gravel to distract you from your suffering.
