Monte Sano route suggestion?? Should I do something else?

I have only been over to Monte Sano a couple of times. I plan on hitting it for a couple of days this weekend, as long as the weather holds out.

Each time I have been over, I rode the same trails. Here is what was recommended to me a few years ago:

Family Trail to South Cumberland and go left to Mountain Mist and then straight on to Goat Trail. Right on Sinks to Keith's to Logan Point and back to Mountain Mist.

Back to South Plateau to McKay Hollow. McKay to Natural Well to arrowhead and over to bluffline and tollgate back up the mtn to the road.

I have done this route twice and like it, but wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing anything fun or if there was anything new.

Plan to ride a second day, so a route suggestion for that would be appreciated.

I know that I can get a map at the park, but is there an online resouce?

On the last segment "tollgate back up to the road", there is a new trail there called "dummy line". It is a funner alternative than tollgate to ride back up.

After you leave the parking lot area of Land trust, at about 200 yards or so on the left side of tollgate, you will see a trail that branches off. This is dummy line trail.....there is no sign there yet, and it is easy to miss.

I beleive Oct 1 starts hunting season. Some parts of Flat-Rock cross private property and you need to avoid that during hunting season. After Feb-15, all of Flat-Rock is OK to ride. I'm not sure exactly where the parts that cross private property are.

I had forgotten the date, that's why the edit.

Just out of curiosity, how long does it take you to do that route? That is a serious phukkin loop.

I am not sure. It's a big day, but nothing too terrible if I remember correctly. I don't ride with a computer/gps so I just pedal.

    I'll let you know.

I will be riding here tomorrow. Does anyone have a link to, or a gpx file to share, that would outline a good route to ride there? I'd be looking to ride the most difficult stuff.

Bumping this with a few questions.

Planning a little SE tour, Monte Sano looks prime to camp/ride from. Hopefully the campground isn't too busy late this month. And the trails will hopefully be ready? Any locals advise otherwise?

Any places I should hit on my quick Huntsville stop? Beer? Bike shops? Trying to piece together a prime example of Monte Sano riding in a 2-3 hour tour.

    Thanks.

    Trails:
The trails are fine as long as there hasn't been any significant precipitation for 2 to 3 days.

    Camping:
Monte Sano has stone cabins for rent, RV parking and primitive campsites. Showers & toilets are available in the RV camping area.

    Beer:
There are several breweries in town but Straight to Ale is the most popular.

    Shops:
I haven't had any major problems at any of the LBSs.

Hoping no rain on my trip, alas I know the deal with that. Camping at the park sounds like the way to go. Thanks for the beer suggestion, will hit it up. Any LBS you'd recommend for maps/trail suggestions? Any trail suggestions you have?

Map can be found here: Monte Sano Map
Also you can get a print out at the gate to Monte Sano if it's manned. BTW its $3/adult to get in on the weekends, there are honor boxes at all of the park entrances.

    Trails:

Gummy or Dummy Line trail (technical and fun climb/descent)
    Family trail (flowy single track)
    Sinks (short but fun descent)
    Goat (fun descent)
Getting to all of those would probably take 2 to 3 hours.
