    Camping in Santos?

Anyone done it before? I did it 4 years ago in the winter, but it was much cooler then. My concern is that it's just too freaking hot to sleep in a tent this time of the year..

Chances are it will be very hot .... you do have electric to plug in some fans and make it bearable.

Ya, what he said. Did it a couple weeks ago on my way back from NC. Didn't get tolerable until about 2am. Thought about a portable AC unit next time during the summer.

I'm pretty hardcore when it comes to camping but you would have to pay me to camp in Florida this time of year. The heat during the day is bad enough, but as OffCamber mentioned it never really cools down at night. That is the worst part. Maybe find an el-cheapo motel?

Lots of cheap motels just north of the trailhead on route 441 as you enter Ocala.

My first time at Santos last weekend and tenting at the campground was fine, but got a bit lucky with a heavy rain between 5-6 PM which cooled things off earlier. I took along a fan and had it on to dry some things, but really didn't need it. The most annoying thing was train noise. It seemed like every 45 minutes they were coming through and blasting their horns. If I go back, I'll take ear plugs. A couple of weeks before, we tented at Lithia Springs to ride Alafia and Boyette and it was pretty warm up until around 10 PM. Prior to this, I had not been camping in 12 years.....still fun.

Yeah I think I'm going to stick with a cheap motel. A poor nights sleep will just waste away the second day of riding.

    Thanks.
