Here's what I call a "Spreck"..

This was my 1st real bike; a year '99 or '00 Trek7000. It is a "Sprek" because of the Specailized crankarms I put on out of desperation when the LBS didn't have the parts I needed before a race (figure dat!).

Look at that ugly paint. The paint job fell to pieces on Scary Fast's very first ride out at Rocky BLORA on Ft Hood. I hope not all Trek paint finishes are crap like on this bike. the first few stones the paint started chipping off in torrents.

My Giant has a matt black finish and the most happens to its finish is some light scratches. I may never buy a Trek again. Scary Fast resides permanently in my Cyclops trainer and gets ridden at least 3 hours or more a week until she falls apart.

Think about this before condemming Trek's

paint job. Environmental concerns/regulations are mostly nonexixtant in Taiwan, so companies like Giant can use materials/methods that are banned in the US. Makes for a great paint job along with a lack of living creatures in their rivers. Or so I've been told.

Let me add this quote to reasons Taiwan makes better bikes. What a joke, if Trek was so concerned about the enviornment, then they would powdercoat. What Trek is concerned with is the bottom line......period!
