Has anyone ridden this bike with the new Disk Tabs as a single speed using disk brakes. I would like to know how tight you can get the chain without using a chain tensioner

I haven't but my buddy owns a shop and is a SC dealer and he hates it. He runs v's on his Chameleon for that reason. Basically you can get the chain pretty snug but you have to remove the caliper and put it back on every time you remove the rear wheel. At least that was my limited understanding. I thought about just running a disc up front and v's on the back to elminate the problem but that might not be what you were thinking.

I'm slowly puting together a Chameleon Disc Single Speed and have been told the recipe as far as gearing goes is 34/18 with the international standard disc mounts.....Caliper removal for tire/flat changes is a new one on me....we'll see.

I have the 04. I am not running it single speed but the wheel still has to go in the same way. I do not have to remove my break to take off my rear wheel. I do have to take off my skewer to get around the derailleur though, but that is no big deal. I have attached a pic of it but I don't believe you can see the brake mount. I hope this helps.

BTW, the disc tab was a concern for me too.

Hope this helps.

Here is a pic just of the mount.

I have a 2003 Chameloen that is setup as SS and runs front and rear discs. I am running a 32/18 and it works fine (I had heard that the 34/18 is perfect but I am too wimpy to turn that gear on big climbs). It takes a little bit to get the disc setup and chain length correct, but after that no problem.

When running it as a geared Urban/XC bike, I had no problems what so ever with the dropouts and QRs while using those black inserts in the horz droupouts.

I have considered dropping the rear disc and using the new White Industries eccentric hub on the rear (http://www.whiteind.com/eno.htm). This would enable me to change gear ratios rapidly and not have to worry about chain length and tension. Now if they only made a IS disc eccentric axle hub... hmmmmm
