We ARE having problems with images in the classifieds right now, for some users. Mostly new users. We are working on correcting this problem ASAP.

Is there any way to sort bike/frame ads based on frame size? If not, could it be added? That would be a great feature since anyone looking for a bike is only interested in one or two sizes and would presumably prefer not to sort through ads for bikes that won't fit them.

We don't have that sort feature. I agree that it would be helpful, but I tried poking around the settings but couldn't find an easy way to do it.

How do I change my ad and put it in the proper category once it's already posted?

I made a purchase a week ago, but still haven't heard anything from the seller. What options do I have other than canceling the PayPal payment?

I would definitely cancel the PayPal payment, immediately. If it's something like, they were out of town, at the hospital, etc....you can easily resend payment once communication has been re-estabilished.

You can post here the user's name and I can check to see if it's a legit (non-scammer) account.

You can leave a negative feedback for that user.

Click on the "Product Options" dropdown menu and select "edit ad". You will be able to change/edit/add images here. Be sure the files are within the allowed size (this is the single biggest problem that people have when uploading images, their pix are too big in either file size, pixel dimensions or both.)

Click on the "Product Options" dropdown menu and select "move/delete". What will NOT be obvious, after selecting that option, is that you have to scroll down and there is now a checkbox (above the quick reply area) that you can now check for "delete ad" then click submit. Alternately, you could mark it as "sold".

Thanks Gregg. I cancelled the payment this week, and left feedback. I kept hoping the seller went on summer vacation and was unavailable, but I still haven't heard a thing.

Thanks gregg ... that was the problem, it is marked as sold when it did not sell yet, but the ad had expired.

    Classified Rules??

I'm sure I'm overlooking something, but I can't seem to find the "rules" regarding classified ads.

I just went to check my ad and see that it is marked "SOLD". The items have not sold, so I'm assuming that the ad has expired???

Why do they get marked "SOLD", when they are not? If they have expired, it seems that they should say "EXPIRED." Or just be deleted.

And, assuming that it can be automated, it would be nice to get an email notice when an ad is about to expire, with the option to renew.

    TIA for enlightenment.

    --EDIT---

Now I'm really confused. In trying to sort this out by myself, I went to my ad and chose "Edit." I lowered the price and the changed the ad title a bit. I figured I would be promoted to pay another $2 to re-list the item, but I wasn't. But now the "SOLD" is gone and it looks like it's active again?

Ad was originally posted on August 2, so according to the 30-day rule it was expired.

And the edited ad isn't appearing in the "Latest Ads" list either. I would assume that if I were to renew it, it would be?

We don't actually recommend renewing an ad, because it does NOT go back up to the top based on the renewal date (like it should, ideally). It just stays listed by the original post date.

We actually let the ads run for like 34 days or so.

If you'd rather place a new ad (to get back at the top by the new date) go ahead and place a new ad and then let me know when your new ad is up and I will go back and take down your old (renewed) ad and give you a credit back for that.

    Gregg,

Thanks for the reply. I still have some confusion though.

So, "renewing" an ad DOES make it active again, it just doesn't move it to the top of the list and it does NOT appear in the "Latest ads" listing? Do I have that correct? IOW, one could "renew" an ad forever, with no charge, and it will still be there, just not prominently displayed?

Does the system automatically mark ads as SOLD, when the expiration date comes around? That's my main question. And is there no warning email when an ad is about to expire?

I just want to understand how the system works.

And I would like to actually renew the ad for the Gore bike wear. Can I just pay and you can move the ad up, or do I have to repost it?

    Hey Gregg

I have a couple ads posted in the classifieds and I'm having trouble receiving messages from potential buyers. I even tried sending myself a message through the "contact seller" and I didn't get it. I don't know if it will help but I added the items to my "watch list". I'm having no problems getting updates on the threads I'm following so I don't know whats going on. Any suggestions on how to correct the problem???

    Thanks

I've always had the same problem. Every time someone contacts me via the 'contact seller' link in my ad, I get an email with no copy in the body, so I never know what they're asking me.

Ditto on no emails happening in classifieds!

I just tried responding to two different ads with three different email addresses I own--no responses!

Please look into this and supply some answers. The delay in getting responses from MTBR admin is astounding. This is a serious matter since ads are paid for and there is apparently no way for a respondent to email a response!

Same problem here. Placed an ad a month ago, didn't get any responses. I just went to the classified section to browse, and saw something that said I had a message. I didn't even know there was a separate message section for the classifieds, and I never got an email notice of the message. Great, someone was interested in my frame.....three weeks ago. I think I'll just stick with Craigslist.

How long after you placed the ad was it marked sold? My ad was marked sold (not by me) as well. 30 days had gone by when I noticed, so I thought it was just because the ad had expired. But I never looked at the ad after I initially posted it, so who knows how long it was marked sold. Not too happy about this situation.

Is the fee only good for 30 days (guess I didn't read the fine print if so)? If that's the case I'd much rather it be simply taken down than erroneously marked sold. That would be a really $hitty way to deal with expired ads.

Need some help checking out whether my ads are working...

I've posted a few times in this thread about not being able to get any emails originating from my ads. There doesn't seem to be much happening so far, so I'm hoping that others here might do me a favor and try to email me from an ad.

    I currently have two up:

    1. DT Swiss wheelset

    and

    2. Gore Bike Wear

I'm thinking that trying to email myself from the ads as a test isn't valid, so if anyone is willing to go to the ads and send me an email and report it here, I could check and see.

TIA for anyone who takes a minute to check this out.

The title of this forum, say "Post your problems here, and we will fix em." Its been 3 weeks and no responses. Bike is on craiglsist reno, check it.

My listing got marked "Sold" somehow, I did not do anything I know of to mark it as sold. I want it to keep running and remove the "Sold" status. How do I mark my own listing as not Sold?

Still nothing--so I'm assuming that the email response in Classifieds is broken, which means it's more or less a waste of $$ to post there.

Gregg, since you may be a volunteer and I'm sure you have many pressing things to handle, I'm remaining patient. But you, or someone from MTBR staff should be communicating about this situation. If it can't be fixed, that should be known, but I doubt that is the case.

Please inform the community about what's happening.

It's definitely frustrating. I don't care about "wasting" my $6 but I really am disappointed that I can't market items that I want to sell effectively. I have an ad on Pinkbike also--for the wheelset, but no responses. I think Pinkbike is heavily Canadian for one thing. Or maybe their response engine is broken too.

I've thought about taking this to the General Forum so others know about this and maybe light a fire under the MTBR admins.... I don't even care if the news is that there's a problem that they're working on, but absolutely no response is super-aggravating.

Only the admins (like gregg) have access to those things. We, mods, have only 'powers' over the forum part of the site.
