    Double charged through paypal

    Hi,

I tried posting an ad using Firefox and it failed. The paypal went through but the classified didn't (mtbr said the ad was cancelled). So I submitted again using IE and it worked. But I got double-charged in paypal. I filed a paypal dispute but can someone please resolve on this end? Thanks.

I just posted an ad. Or, at least I think I did. When it got to the page where I could review it and hit submit, I went through a few more edit cycles. Then I finally hit 'submit' and got an error like 'You do not have permission for this action.' (Sorry, something like that, didn't save it.) Never got the page that says 'OK now paypal here.' So, I think my ad is working and I'd like to pay for it. (It's also bold and highlighted.) Who do I pay? Is it legit?

    Thanks,

    Morgan

That is cool that it displays distance to an area code but the code to have it sort by that distance would be more useful. The data to sort by is already there. Just a thought.

you could post a trade as a "WANT" classified ad...since you "want to trade" ... and post a link on the thread. The want ads are free, and then you would be complying with the guidelines.

Remember that you can post a thread with the link only once and will get locked to avoid bumping.

Is there any plans for a "garage sale" type section where you can list several parts at once?

I'm parting out a bike and it would be easier to just have it all in one post. I don't mind paying 2$ per item.

Ads CAN be renewed but we don't recommend it.

The problem is that, once you renew, the ad does not go back to the top, listed by date.

To get maximum visibility, it is better to list a whole new ad, and it costs the same ($2.)

'course, you have to reupload your photos, but the increase in visibility is well worth the time.

    delay for ads?

Is something up with the classifieds? I paid for my ad this morning, but now (more than 12 hours later) it's still saying it hasn't been paid for. Paypal is telling me the transaction is complete. Usually, it almost instantly posts.

    The ad should be here:

    Thanks,

    scam?

I'm new to this site. first time I've listed anything to sell. I have an item for sale and I rec'd an email from a guy who has only contacted me via email. I do not have any messeges on MTBR? Shouldn't I be notified only via MTBR which sends me an email? I have not responded since it seems odd. help is appreciated!!

IIRC, MTBR offers the option to contact any user by email or private message (PM), you will only get an MTBR notification for PMs, the emails go out directly, as a regular email, to your email account.

    Paid spam

How do you list your ad as paid spam in a sub-forum, i.e., a manufacturer forum that might be specifically interested in your ad?

You can't list your ad directly in a subforum. According to the guidelines however, you are allowed to post one thread with a link to the classified ad.

After 30 days the ad expires and is removed from the system.

You have to post again to get your ad listed.

There is a renew feature, but we do not recommend it, since renewed ads do NOT get relisted by the renewal date. For maximum visiblity it is way better to just list as a whole new ad.

    Hayy Greg,

I just posted a classified ad; http://classifieds.mtbr.com/editprod...?phoedit=59797 . The amount of views is ... Staggering (no emails tho) !!!

I recall that there used to be a "list of rules" regarding classifieds vs. Forums; that a person could mention their ad in Two forum posts .... !

Is that still true??? Can OTHER people mention a classified in the forums>

    Peace,

The rules you mention are the posting guidelines (see my signature).

You are mixing up 2 rules. One is that it is allowed to post twice about anything (cross posting), but in the case of ad posts, it can be done only once and the thread will be locked to avoid bumping.

    Hope this helps

    payment methods when shipping?

How do people usually handle payment when shipping a bike? I have an interested buyer who would need the bike shipped, but we're not sure how to do it so that one of us isn't risking getting ripped off?

Usually the buyer has more risk than the seller. How it usually works is that the buyer sends payment to the seller. Once payment is received, the seller then ships the bike.

All terms are whatever the buyer and seller can agree upon. Paypal is a popular method, although Mtbr is not an official endorser of them.

Just be sure that funds FULLY clear your bank (which can take 7 to 10 days or more) before you ship. There are a lot of counterfeit cashier's checks and such and your average bank teller can NOT tell the difference by looking.

Be sure to read ALL the scam alerts that we have posted.

If you are logged in, and looking at your ad, there is a "edit ad" link below and slightly to the left of where the main image should be. Click on that and it will give you an option to make changes to your ad (like adding images).

Actually, the old system (very old) did not have a rating system. The new one does, but ratings have to be done on the current system (which we've had for at least 5 years now).

Before the current system, all we had was the Good Trader/Bad Trader forum. Which still exists, on our sister site: RoadBikeReview.

How do I re-run my ad?

Had a lengthy ad up for a new high end frame & parts. I was looking for a way to renew before it expired, but couldn't find one, so I was hoping the option would appear after it was taken down. Do I have to enter the whole thing again?

We do not promote renewing your ad, because it does NOT get relisted by the new renewal date. It stays buried in the listings by original date.

So, it is much better (and the same price) to list a whole new ad and get back up to the top by date.

Due to the number of ads we receive, we do not have an archive of old ads, once expired.

As long as you are logged in, there is an "edit ad" link in the ad, below where the main image is (or should be). Click on this and you can edit or upgrade your ad.

The grey are "highlighted" ads. They stick out more when viewing the categories.

i accidentally clicked on the "pay with credit card" button instead of the "pay with PayPal" button. when the payment screen loaded i used by back arrow to go back and i selected the PayPal option and completed the ad. however, now i show the listing twice, although one says "this ad has not been paid for yet". how do i remove the one for which i didn not pay?

Under "For Sale" where there should be categories, I'm getting nothing. There are little numbers showing how many ads there are under each category, but no words or links. This happens on firefox and chrome.

We are checking into this problem now. We have gotten several reports of this, but we are unable to replicate the problem.

    Stay tuned.

Is there a way to only search for ads within a certain range of my zip code? Either in a specific category, or just all ads that are near me?

Recent ads will show both ads with and without photos. If there is no photo, it will show a default "no thumbnail" placeholder image.

You can use Photoshop or any photo editor program to resize it down.

    No pics on ad...

I ran an ad last night, and uploaded the pics, around 100k-200k each pic in size. But no pictures showed up today. I saw your comment* and I will try it in a few hrs, but is there any reason that the pics would not have worked? And how do you get it so that people can click on the picture and supersize it?

    * If you are logged in, and looking at your ad, there is a "edit ad" link below and slightly to the left of where the main image should be. Click on that and it will give you an option to make changes to your ad (like adding images).

    Thanks.

We had a problem with images early yesterday morning, but it was fixed by around 11 am (PST). If you do it now, it should work.

And the new location of the "edit ad" link is under the "Product Options" dropdown. This change happened during the software upgrade about a month ago or so.

If you still need help retrofitting images, LMK.

    Hey Bubbs,

As far as I know, once you have funds in Paypal, they are available instantly.

I did a search for your ads and did not find any, so I take it you've still had no luck?

I checked your account on our end and it's all good. So I'm not entirely sure why you aren't able to post.

I did have one other user with the same problem email me over the weekend, so this may be a growing concern for us.

What OS and browser are you using? If you use a different browser, does it do the same thing?

Be sure to check the "remember me" box when you login and make sure you have cookies enabled in your browser.

I accidently posted my ad under the 29er category becuase that's what i've been shopping for. The bikes i'm selling are not 29er's. When I choose the edit option it won't let me change categories. Do I have any option other than paying another $2 to relist it?

Found your add and moved it to the "Full Suspension Bike" category.

I can't get images to upload. I've placed many ads in the past and have properly sized images, but still no luck. I even tried uploading very small images with no success. I've tried two different browsers with the same result.

edit: It finally worked. Same image files as before, but now they upload fine.
