I would like to know also. I used to be able to search for stuff I wrote 5 years ago and easily find it, now it seems searchs only go back a year? Is it possible to extend the search for older posts?

You will have to use the google search function as in "search word site:forums.mtbr.com" then you can sort by result or date.
Found a simple fix: in the Google search bar at the page top, just enter your screen name and search. Any post you started or replied to will be there. Hopefully.

That returned just 25,100 results for me.

To just browse more recent threads go to "Display Options" at the bottom of the forum index page.
Click the "From the" pulldown and chose how far back you want to go.
Click "Show Threads"

Is that option to go back to the beginning something new? I swear the last time I looked I couldn't find a way to go back more than a year. Or I'm losing my mind.

Has always been there. It is not a search function, though.
