New question here. Wide Versus Narrow

Just rode my new "old" bike. First fully rigid ride in about 17 years! 1989 Trek 950 SS. My question is I am used to running tubless on my squish bike and am leary of pinch flats. I am running Ryno lites rims which are wide with Panaracer Fires. I also have a set of 517's that I could switch over to. Which one is going to be better at minimizing pinch flats, wide or narrow?

    wider, in my experience

ghetto tubeless on a wide rim would be even better
