    Wide tires 2.0 vs 2.3

I have been running Hutchinson Pythons on one of my rigid SS bikes; 2.3 in the front and 2.0 in the back. I eventually switched the tires to my hardtail SS and had to replace the 2.3 about a week ago, because of a cut on the sidewall. I replaced the 2.3 tire with a 2.0 tire because of the difference in price; $18 vs $47 (I don't like spending over $30 for a tire). I'm thinking I should also replace the rear tire, which is showing some wear. So far I haven't noticed much difference, but I haven't been riding anything very challenging either. My question is, would it be worth buying another 2.3 tire for the front and switch the current tire to the rear? Is there any advantage to a 2.3 front tire on a hardtail XC, or will another 2.0 tire work just as well?
Just one more rep and I get the toaster!

fat tires in the front seem more important if you have a rigid fork. i have seen the 2.0 Pythons and they look huge!
