    why single speed?

    Hi I am pretty new to mtbing and I was wondering why in the hell would anybody want only one speed? can you guys tell me the whys and what for's, pros and cons. thanks. whats the difference in the ride and can you ride on trails?

    Did you read the FAQ yet...

    The FAQ is a good place to start with your question. After that I would recommend you try it. Only then will you understand.

    Not for everybody. If I only rode my singlespeed there would be some rides that would suck to the point where they were not worth riding. IMO, singlespeeding is neither a superset nor a subset of mountain biking on a geared bike.
    If you don't like climbing, then my rides are three times more fun than yours.
