    stripped crank arm removal

my spider came loose and so I was taking my crank arm off to tighten the spider back down. the removal threads on my crank stripped when I was removing it with the crank arm puller. I was able to use a ball ended allen to tighten the spider down w/out removing the crank, but if I ever have to remove the crank, how do I go about it? Is the crank ruined after my next removal?

I remeber DAS's rubber mallet method of a year or so ago (which if I remember correctly...worked), but I'd rather go about it another way.

... and if we just ...

    To remove....
first take off the crank arm bolt, and then ride the bike a little bit.. practice your wheelies in your yard or whatever... within a little time, your crank arm should come loose, and probably even fall off the spindle. You can even use the crank arm again provided that the splines or tapers are not toast, and that you can deal with the riding the bike to remove the arm method.
The simplest method is just to buy a new crank arm...
also, don't forget to tighten down that crank puller...!!

    good idea

I'll remember that when I need to remove the arm. Thanks.

I hate to admit but I did have the puller tight. Problem is...wife gives me a few minutes to work on bike, I rush down to the basement, in a hurry I grab the wrong puller (I get the splined drive puller instead of the square taper puller), tighten that thing down and it pops out of the threads because the splined puller was just pushing up against the crank rather than the bb...oops. Of course it's my wife's fault because she wanted me to hurry, right?
