SS Without Chaintensioner & Fat Tire

Im Indra from Indonesia, I just saw all cool SS pictures in this forum, and there's a thing or two that I want to ask, based most SS picture that I looked

    1. How can you make vertical Dropout Frame to SS without using any chain tensioner ???
    2. Is it bit heavy using Fat tire above 1.95 while using SS ??? what the advantage and disadvantage ???

    welcome!!
    1) sometimes (depending on which frame you have) you can find what's called a "magic gear" ratio, this is a combination between the chainring and the cog, and they somehow mathematically make for a chain tight enough to run without a chain tensioner.
you can also buy an eccentric bottom bracket, or eccentric hub (like White Industry's ENO hubs) These are a lot easier to use as there's less math involved.

    2) if the tire's too heavy (maybe if you're changing from a 450 gram xc tire to a 2.6" gazzaloddi at about 1100 grams!) you need to change your gear ratio a bit.
this is one of the reasons people on single speeds tend to find a certain setup and stay in that range.
if you decided one day to put a tire that weighs a couple hundred grams more than the one you did yesterday, your gear ratio might not allow you to climb the hills anymore.
So every time you drastically change your wheels/tires/weigh of the entire bike you want to re-evaluate your gearing and make sure you can still ride the thing.
If steel is real then aluminium is supercallafragiliniun!

The bigger tire means bigger surface on the road which mean more resistance more grip

Depends on the terrain, on rough terrain if you use fat and rough tire it could be lighter since not all of the tire grid touch the terrain surface which mean less resistance.

Yes: 1. How can you make vertical Dropout Frame to SS without using any chain tensioner ???

ENO Hub - eccentric mechanism enables SS on vertical drops.
