SS hub or geared hub converted?

What are you guys running? Is it better to stay SS dedicated or leave the option open for 1x9 down the road?

I like Hope's Pro 2 Singlespeed/Trials hub: it has a narrow freehub that allows tuning the chainline. Also, there's room for 5 or 6 cogs, in case I want to have a few gears.

    There's others with similar design.

Yes: you just have to set the derailer limiter screws so that it does not try to shift to cogs that are not there.

My "A" wheelset has a SS specific hub. My backup set is a LX Centerlock. I don't notice a lot of difference.

Hope's Pro 2 Singlespeed/Trials hub has 48 POEs vs 24 for regular Hope Pro.

    +1 on that,

If you want to have some gear options go for a hub with a short SS body like Hope SS, DT Swiss SS, CK etc (I have Hope). They build up to a stronger symmetric wheels then a hub for 9 gears. Not to forget also more nice looking :-)
(Symmetric=spokes with same length for both sides).

    +1 on Hope SS.

If you take the main spider off a SRAM 990 cassette, you can have 5 or 6 gears on there, depending on whether it is an 11-32 or 11-34. I think the smallest cog is 23T, though.
