    sram chains

what's the diff btwn pc-48 and pc-58 chains? the sram website shows the 58 as one bar better but what accounts for that one bar? i just bought a bunch of 48's and am wondering if'n i'm goin to break'em. i haven't snapped a 58 yet...

also while i'm here: when do you guys swap out the chain? i'm at .75 on the park chain measuring tool. the tool recommends a new chain at </=1.0. i'm trying to avoid wearing out the teeth of the chainring and freewheel. thanks.

ps. and finally: how well does the pc-7x jibe w/ 3/32 gear? I understand it's stronger...

    Good job!

As SRAM moves up the Sachs-Sedis hierarchy of chains, they add harder pins, nickel plating on outer, then inner, plates, better tolerances, more contouring of the outer plates and finally, hollow pins.

I don't think you're going to break the 48's, just that they wear a little more quickly than the 68 (best deal going these days for 8 speed) and don't look as shiny when you clean them well.

The PC-48 is mainly used as an OEM chain.

PC-7X is a 1/8" chain. as such, it works fine with a 3/32" cog/chainring. I'm running one now with a Blackspire DH/DS chainring on my Monocog. wonderful!
