    Spacers for a single speed

Hi everybody. I have a question about spacers. I want to change my cog to a 19t on my specialized carve sl but I cant find the right spacers. I got a surly 19t cog and the base of that cog is thicker than the stock 20t cog. I tried my lbs but they dont have any. What should I get and where? Thanks!

If the LBS doesn't carry dedicated SS spacers you can also see if they carry any 10 speed or 8-to-9 speed adapters and put a few of them on. Otherwise just order a kit up online.

If you are in the States, go to a local home improvement store and get a short section of 1-1/4" I.D. Schedule 40 PVC; this fits perfectly over a free hub. Then use a miter saw to cut to whatever width you need. Works great, so long as you have the ability to cut it straight (hence the miter saw suggestion).

And if white plastic is displeasing to your aesthetic sensibilities, you can always pick up a can of spray paint as well.

Or how about something like this? Not sure how well they work but seems you'd get maximum adjustability with something like that.

strangely the plastic spacers from a shimano BB fit on the freehub, just pop down to your LBS and score yourself a whole fist full as the BB's don't last long and are a throw away item. I used an alloy one from my CK BB to go next to the lock ring as the plastic one was too soft.
