I just installed a spiderless chainring on an old set of XT cranks (square taper era) and as I pried off the snap retainer ring that secures the lock ring it went shooting off to see the sights in distant corners of my basement never to be seen again. I mean that thing was gone--my cat couldn't even find it! And he was motivated 'cause he saw it go and loves to chase UFO's. Anyway, I soaked the lockring threads in blue loctite and torqued it down good with a bench vice. Think that'll hold it? Or should I start scouring hardware stores and old bike shops to find a replacement snap ring?
Thanks! Pics pending when the bike's done.
