    Rough freewheel (I think) question...

Question. I went out for a snowy ride last night and this AM was putting my bike on the roof and noticed the freewheel (or hub?) making a kind of rough, light grinding noise when I spun the wheel forward. I assume it's the freewheel since I hear it when I spin the wheel forward and it "coasts". It's a Surly 1x1 hub with a ACS on it. It's pretty clean. Obviously been in some cold weather though. Any ideas on what's causing the roughness and a good fix? Fortunately it's not dragging bad or anything, but I'd certainly like to smooth it out. Thanks in advance. S

    Idea! Rough freewheel fixes

Think I got this tip from Shiggy.

Get yourself a bit of Mobil 1 synthetic GEAR oil (90wt. or somethin'), stick that freewheel in there and let it soak a bit. I spin the freewheel while it's soaking and lots of nasty old grease and grime comes out. (spin it wit the tip of a screwdriver)

Works good. All my various FW's are out soaking in the garage....I just leave 'em in there.

    on the bike fix

I clean my freewheel withWD-40 on the bike.

Lube with "one lube"made by the slick 50 people.
or shimano chain lube works good too.lay the bike flat so it seeps down.
    I've been inside too long.
