    The price we pay

What do you do (or what have you done) to earn money for your ride? I DJ on the weekends. The weddings are special and the nightclubs are fun..... but there is a dark side.My boss told me it wouldn't be that bad, we could share the 3 nights a week gig. I became enamored with SS while lurking, bought a frame, he bailed, now I listen to people sing "American Pie","Piano Man",and "Gin & Juice" badly 2 nights a week.....Karaoke. this ain't exactly "American Idol"

    Work like a dog....

I work every hour of overtime available. After taxes and family, I get about 1/2. I save and spend as hard as I work... which allows me to buy what I want without nagging from my wife.

That's a good one. Here in the Northeast-I have used to bad weather from the past 2 years to earn some extra money snowblowing my lazy neighbhors driveways

I've bought a Surly Cross Check and just ordered a Monocog.

    Well....

I worked in an old peoples home (specialising in the care of EMI's...elderly mentaly ill)....that was pretty grim but it paid for college and my Rock Lobster!

Worked for a company making tanker lorries, until I was asked to lie to a customer to the tune of 23k ....I left PDQ!

Then in the bike trade, both in shops and now in distribution / manufacturing.

I got t-boned by a drunk driver blasting through a four way stop. Used the cash to buy a high-end Litespeed hardtail.

A couple of months later, fell in love with SSing, while at the same time started to despise the ride/fit of the new Ti bike. Sold it, and sold another (hardly ridden) Litespeed road bike. Bought Chester. Later on, bought CrossCheck. Bliss.

    Like a lot of folks...

back in the day, I moonlighted on the sales floor of a horrible, soulless LBS. Worked for 9 or 10 hours in a cubicle farm and then rode my fixie to the neighborhoodf shop where I sold $1000 hybrids to stupid rich people. Every penny earned went back into the QBP order -- nothing worth having in stock. Went it got to be really bad, I bailed. Shop is gone, I've still got most of what I bought 8 years ago.
