New question here. Poll: Who has SS'd Moab?

Hey guys...... I'm going out to Moab in March. Went last year and did it on my Blur. Now that I've crossed over to the darkside... I was interested to seeing if anybody has done it on an SS. What trails did you ride? What gearing did you use? What tire setup?

    Thanks - shiftless

pretend your SS is just another bike

and ride it accordingly. If you have been to Moab you should know how to set it up to your liking.
There is no place, race or event that hasn't been successfully SS'ed

I ride 32/18 almost everywhere and use Continental Vertical protection tires.

I think SS was a huge advantage on slickrock with all the short steep climbs.

    Great on a SS

I've ridden Moab twice on a singlespeed. Once at 34/18 and once at 32/18. 32/18 is probably better. Trails ridden: slickrock, porcupine, gemini bridges, and one other I can't remember the name of. I like relatively low tread tires on slickrock and some good rock tires for the rest.

I'll be out there the second week in March too so maybe I'll see you on the trails. If you get a chance check out Fruita. Some real nice trails there too.

I did six hard rides in a three day period (two per day).

    It hurt.
    It hurt a lot.
    It hurt so good.

    Do it.

    More info.

    I ran a 30:18.

I did Amassa Back, Slickrock (with Qtip!), Poison Spider + Portal, Sovereign, Flat Pass, and Goldbar + Metalmasher + Something.

Don't forget to bring fat squishy tires.

With my Santa Cruz Superlight right after 9/11, but now that you brought this up, got to get permission from the wife to go back. This time with my 32:16!

    lots of times

I've done Moab for the past three or so years ss. I only live 4 hrs away so I generally get down there a few times a year. Slickrock, Poison Spider, Portal, Porquipine from top to bottom and from bottom to top (bottom to top is definitely my favorite ride down there on ss), 24 hour course, and some others I can't remember the names of right now....but ss is the way to go in Moab IMO

Gear ratios, I've done slickrock 36:18 on my lightweight (21lbs) Bianchi BuSS with nanoraptors, but on my burly 5" travel and fat tires 35+lb steel Spicer I used 32:20 on the same trail. Take a gear you are comfortable climbing with on the bike you are taking and you'll be happy.

Aosty.....good to see you're back in the saddle. Are you making any trips to Moab this Spring? I promise I won't bring that 19 toother from DeeEight.

    A couple of times

Think I had my Rocky Mountains gear on - 32:18. It was just fine.
